About the Job

The Government Relations Director plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the government relations strategy for Cityside Fiber. This position involves working closely with local government officials, regulatory agencies, policymakers, city staff and other stakeholders to advocate for the organization's interests and objectives. The Government Relations Director will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining policies and programs to ensure Cityside's awareness of and impact on federal, state and local legislation that affects its activities. The Government Relations Director will plan, coordinate and implement strategies to promote and positively influence the organization's point of view to state and local elected officials as well as local Public Works Departments' leadership and other key stakeholders. They will also monitor legislative and regulatory developments at the federal, state and local level, including state broadband initiatives, build and maintain relationships with key government representatives, and effectively communicate the organization's positions on various policy matters.

Responsibilities
  • Government Relations Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive government relations strategy that aligns with the organization's goals and interests.
  • Policy Analysis: Monitor legislative and regulatory broadband proposals at the local, state, and federal levels, and provide analysis of their potential impact on the organization.
  • Advocacy and Lobbying: Build and maintain relationships with government officials, city staff, legislators, and regulatory agencies to advance the organization's interests and to facilitate and accelerate permitting, market access, and regulatory approvals that further the efforts of Cityside throughout Southern California. Supports special projects, as needed, with local jurisdictions.
  • Governmental Outreach: Represent the organization at government hearings, meetings, and events to promote the company, articulate its positions and influence decision-makers. Directs the presentation of company positions to elected officials, city staff including but not limited to public works department leadership and third-party stakeholders.
  • Coalition Building: Collaborate with industry associations, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders to build coalitions and alliances that amplify the organization's advocacy efforts to expand fiber broadband throughout Southern California.
  • Collaborate with Cityside internal teams (permitting team, legal, etc.) to assist in eliminating barriers and expediting permit approvals, right of way access agreements, and all municipal permit approvals for Fiber deployments.
  • Stay Informed about Industry trends, political developments, and emerging issues that may impact the organization.
  • Assists with external communications activities in connection with community relations and government affairs programming; helps support a positive company image as a strong community partner; supports the company's business goals; and showcases/raises awareness of Cityside's products and services.
  • Assists with and provides messaging to senior leadership for internal communication as it relates to Government Affairs initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in government affairs, lobbying, or a related role, with a strong understanding of city government and regulatory process. Experience specific to Orange County, California is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in telecommunications industry or related public sector knowledge preferred. In-depth knowledge of relevant policy issues and a demonstrated ability to analyze and communicate complex policy matters.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with government officials, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and execute effective government affairs strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate the organization's positions clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.
  • Collaborative team member; solutions-oriented problem solver.
  • Requires flexible schedule to attend meetings/events in mornings, evenings, and some weekends.
  • A bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, government relations, or a related field or equivalent experience is required. A master's degree is a plus.

Location

Our Headquarters and field offices are located in Irvine. May be required to travel to project/customer sites to fulfill job responsibilities.

Compensation

Starting at $140,000 annually (actual starting rate may be higher based on candidate's qualifications, skills and years of experience).
