Job Title: Director of Security

Department: Security

Reports To: General Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY:

The Director of Security is responsible for managing and supervising the day-to-day Security staff, to ensure the safety and security of all guests, hotel staff, and property.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate all phases of security operations.
  • Assist the Chief Engineer and General Manager in implementing emergency procedures. Report defects in the hotel, including shortages of equipment & supplies.
  • Prepare work schedules for effective staffing, ensuring efficient operation of the department within specific labor standards.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures, and standards.
  • Ensure that standards are maintained at a superior level on a daily basis.
  • Ensure regular patrol of building, grounds, and parking area of the Hotel.
  • Serve as primary liaison with federal, state, and local law enforcement.
  • Ensure that the team examines doors, windows, and corridors to determine that they are secure. Unlocks those doors necessary for the AM shifts.
  • Act without prior approval and with full authority within his/ her scope to ensure that all policies and procedures are followed.
  • Conduct monthly departmental meetings.
  • Establish and maintain good control procedures for the lost and found department.
  • Maintain daily logbook and report all incidents, problems, and unusual circumstances to the General Manager for comments and follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all guest and employee accidents and incidents.
  • Develop and update all emergency/ fire procedures and ensure that staff is fully conversant with all the above.
  • Handle emergency situations when necessary.
  • Develop, maintain, and update preventive safety and security programs and emergency planning.
  • Monitor and reduce all associated injuries.
  • Handle all guest-related incidents as necessary.
  • Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or panhandling
  • Assists staff with managing intoxicated guests.
  • Perform human resources functions for security staff, including recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating performance.
  • Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Director of Security.
  • Condo/Hotel experience preferred.
  • Experience with pre-opening preferred.
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED is preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data.

EDUCATION:
  • Security Guard license required.
  • Degree in Hospitality preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish (preferred).

REASONING ABILITY:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with guests, associates, and external partners.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations.
