Job Summary
As an officer of the Court, the Tribal Court Liaison is responsible for the facilitation of Tribal Court Orders, assisting un'ina in navigating the Tribal Court system and providing supportive services for individuals and families appearing before Tribal Court through the application of cultural traditions, customary and traditional values, written and unwritten law, codes and ordinances.
Facilitation includes: referrals to Tribal, local community, and government resources, conducting supervised visits, interviews, and limited in-home services and inspections. This position requires being a liaison between different departments and offices within the Tribe and the Community, police departments and other courts of competent jurisdiction.
Essential Functions
Responsible for case management of party-involved Tribal Court cases, including the preparation of social histories, conducting guided interviews, home visits and collateral investigations in order to assess needs and to determine the extent and type of services requiredPrepare reports and correspondence; maintain accurate and current case record information; maintain other records as required, including reports during Court status/review hearingsResponsible for support services for parties involved in tribal court cases, i.e., assists in completing various service agency applications, public assistance, social security, food bank referrals, job search, recreation and cultural activities, etc.Facilitate Court Ordered supervised visitsIdentify care options for individuals and families in need of behavioral health services and treatmentProvides advocacy on behalf of court involved parties for local, regional and state resources not available through Kenaitze, i.e., assists in preventive services and outreach to familiesParticipate in special projects, i.e. task force or other Court related dutiesSign and adhere to confidentiality in accordance with the Kenaitze Indian Tribal policyComplete Kenaitze and Tribal Court orientation training, attend and participate in staff and individual training, conferences and meetingsKnowledge of cross-cultural competence, which includes learning the culture and history of the Kahtnuht'ana Dena'inaEnsures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Qualifications
Education
Associate degree in a related field
Experience
Three years' experience in social work or other related fieldProgressively responsible work experience in relevant field may be exchanged for the education requirementsTribal judicial process experience is preferred but not requiredKnowledgeable of casework theory, interviewing techniques, and community resources and servicesKnowledgeable of Federal Indian Child Welfare Act and Tribal Court Codes; ability to read and interpret legal documents and procedure manualsKnowledge and experience working with Alaska Native/American Indian people
License/Certification
Valid Alaska drivers' license and must remain insurable under the tribe's policy
Special Skills

This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
