Job Description:

Working under the general direction of a collaborating physician, the advanced practice clinician (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) provides direct care to patients in a high volume outpatient clinical service. S/he develops, implements, and evaluates a program of specialized health care for a select patient population with cardiac arrhythmia. S/he will be intimately involved in direct care and education of patients and should have experience working with arrhythmias and cardiac devices, such as implantable cardiac defibrillators, implantable loop recorders, and pacemakers. S/he promotes a collaborative relationship among various health care professionals toward continuity of patient care and efficient use of resources. S/he serves as a role model for professional medical practice in the management of patients with cardiovascular disease.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation.


• Follows and manages patients in collaboration with an attending physician in the ambulatory setting


• Performs and records the patient history and physical exam.


• Performs DC Cardioversion, assists in EP lab procedures


• Utilizes knowledge & training to identify, prevent or solve complex and/or recurring patient care problems.


• Collaborates with health care professionals to facilitate a comprehensive plan of care and coordinate resources.


• Writes orders which are in accord with current guidelines.


• Orders/obtains routine laboratory and related studies


• Maintains and promotes relationships with health care providers, both within the institution and outside of it.


• Serves as resource to health care professionals in area(s) of expertise.


• Participates in the development of formal and informal educational programs for health care professionals


• Monitors patient outcomes in accordance with defined standards of patient care.


• Facilitates patient movement through the health-care system and efficient use of resources through intersystem collaboration, as well as interaction with outpatient care providers within and outside our healthcare system.


• Maintains the standards, required credentials, and educational requirements specific to the position.


• Takes responsibilities for leadership and participation on committees and task forces of the health care system.


• Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current health care practice/research.



Qualifications

• Current Massachusetts licensure as a registered nurse in the expanded role (NP) or physician assistant


• Current Federal & Massachusetts licensures to dispense Controlled Substances


• Certification in advanced practice nursing or physician assistant


• Certification in Basic Life Support


• Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support



SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: (MUST be realistic, measurable, objective, and related to the essential functions of the job.)


• Fluent in verbal and written language skills


• Demonstrated competence in providing cardiac care


• Effective communicator with the ability to transfer knowledge (orally and in writing)


• Computer skills to support administrative and clinical tasks, to include EHR & Microsoft Office applications
