To enhance and enrich the cultural development and awareness of the University and greater region by offering superior performing arts experiences delivered with the highest level of service.


Purpose of the Position:

This position will support the Ferguson Center by being responsible for the smooth operations of the lobby and audience seating area during events held at the facility. House Managers are to provide and enforce excellent customer service by creating a welcoming environment, overseeing all patron and staff safety and well-being from arrival through departure post-event. Additionally, this position will assist the Patron Services Manager in the supervision of student and volunteer staff and also support to the Ticket Office as needed.

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required :


Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent



Experience Required
: Experience in a customer service environment. Experience with word processing and spreadsheet software.


Additional Consideration(s):

Education Preferred: Some college coursework to include the fine and performing arts.


Experience Preferred: Experience in event management, front of house and/or ticket office operations. Experience working at a performing arts center. Experience working in hospitality. Experience supervising others.

Conditions of Employment:

This is an HOURLY position and does NOT entitle the incumbent to Commonwealth of Virginia benefits and is limited to 1500 hours in a 365-day period;


Selected candidate will be required to attend a 3-Day New Employee Orientation Program;


Selected candidate must have the ability to work potentially long, irregular hours including weekends for an extended period as dictated by events schedule;


Selected candidate must have the ability to lift 20-50 lbs. (boxes, folding tables, chairs and stanchions, etc.);


Selected candidate must have the ability to stand for an extensive period of time and negotiate stairs.
