ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
This position provides Faculty support to the Truck Driving Program, Truck Driving Contract, and the Wisconsin Decision Driving Center (WDDC). Examples of key duties include, but not limited to:
Prepare and deliver instruction that provides hands-on learning in the following areas: safe and legal operation of a CMV while administering student road evaluations; proper Commercial Vehicle inspections; shifting of automated and non-synchronized transmissions; coupling/uncoupling trailers; backing maneuvers (straight line, 90 and 45 degree, parallel, etc); traffic and weather management
Use latest technology to support instruction, i.e. simulators, e-logs, and vehicle camera systems
Observe, evaluate, and promote student's performance and development
Encourage, monitor, and prepare required reports on the progress of individual student, as required by laws, policies and school regulations
Encourage student success in accordance with FVTC's policies and procedures
Stay current with developments in subject area, and update training materials as necessary
Administer course of instruction on the Wisconsin Decision Driving Course to simulate a variety of emergency situations. Teach students and customers in the following: Understand their limitations as well as learning more about the capability of a variety of vehicle types; Employ different braking techniques whether ABS is present or not; make better decisions in an actual emergency, thus minimizing or eliminating the devastating results of an accident
Administer student and customer requested skills evaluations to determine driver competency and safety.
Administer student and third party CDL examinations
Provide CDL Examiner / Auditor training
Provide specialized training in yard horse, cargo securement, train the trainer, etc.
Serve as a liaison with the Diesel and Automotive Departments to ensure all equipment is operational for Truck Driving program, WDDC, and Truck Driving Contract Training.
Participate as an active team member in Truck Driving program, WDDC, and Truck Driving Contract Training.
Assist the Director of Truck Driving to monitor and facilitate operations in department activities and functions such as daily program dispatch, decision driving, technology integration, and CDL/DOT interactions
SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS
Assist in college events such as Open Houses, Career Days, etc
Community outreach to local and regional schools
Serve as a liaison with the Diesel and Automotive Departments to ensure all equipment is operational
Diagnose and fix minor equipment malfunctions; frozen brakes, dead batteries, etc
Transporting school freight
Snow removal in winter months
Painting of traffic lines and all other maintenance of Truck Driving and WDDC ranges
QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Technical Diploma or Associate Degree in Transportation, AND
Behind-the-wheel instructors must pass a background check, and hold a valid Class A CDL (including appropriate endorsement(s) to operate the CMV for which training is to be provided and have either:
Minimum of three years of experience driving a CMV requiring a CDL, or
Minimum of two years of experience as a behind-the-wheel CMV instructor, or
An equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience

Substantial knowledge of trucking industry and CDL requirements
Substantial knowledge of equipment
Ability to maintain accurate records, assemble and organize data
Basic knowledge of MS Office Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
Managing multiple tasks, often with competing deadlines
Flexibility in work schedules is required.
Additional Information
Starting pay: $25.76 per hour.
Note: Internal applicants' wage will be based upon the applicable compensation structure.
