A Campus Security Authority (or CSA) is defined as an "official of the institution with significant responsibility for student and campus activities". A CSA is required to immediately report any crime that is reported to them to the University Police who will then review, evaluate, and investigate the reported crime. Annual training is required by the Department of Education for all personnel who have been designated as a Campus Security Authority.

Chief Objective of Position:

To expand and enhance visibility, awareness, and the reputation of Christopher Newport University and its associated programs.


Work Tasks:



  • Using independent judgment and discretion, contributes outstanding leadership, and direction to marketing strategy and execution by the Office of Communication and Public Relations.

  • Acts as primary liaison between the Office of Communications and Public Relations and University Admission Department to provide creative services.

  • Provides direction and direct oversight to marketing initiatives, especially those directed at prospective students.

  • Acts as a liaison with external marketing partners. Foster strong internal camaraderie and facilitate necessary administrative approvals.

  • As a member of the leadership team, establishes and implements communications, marketing and public relations goals, plans, programs and services.

  • Evaluates, plans, creates, implements, maintains and enforces the University brand strategy.

  • Evaluates, plans, creates, implements and directs a comprehensive University marketing plan that furthers the business objectives of the organization and advances the brand strategy.

  • Provides creative leadership to members of the University community to ensure their communications, marketing, and public relations objectives align with organizational goals.

  • Hires, trains and evaluates performance for appropriate administrative, professional and classified staff.

  • Project management, in partnership with the other Office of Communications and Public Relations directors and assistant directors, includes:

  • Defines project scope, goals and deliverables.

  • Develops project tasks and resource requirements.

  • Creates project plans and tracks deliverables using appropriate tools

  • Assembles and coordinates project staff

  • Quality assurance

  • Monitors and reports on the progress of the project to all stakeholders

  • Project evaluations and assessment of results

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of departmental initiatives.

Required Education:

Masters Degree or a Bachelor's Degree and experience that equates to an advanced degree.


Experience Required:

Successful experience in a combination of the following areas: communications and marketing, art direction, management.


Additional Consideration - Experience:

Successful experience in developing, implementing and assessing comprehensive communications, marketing and public relations strategies across platforms that build and advance institutional brand values. Prior professional marketing experience working in a college/university setting


Salary Information:

Starting at $83,892, to commensurate with education and experience.
