Positions provides leadership to agricultural or family and consumer sciences and 4-H youth development programs in a dual assignment with approximately 50% of time spent in agriculture or family and consumer sciences and the other 50% of time spent in 4-H youth development work.Works with the nine nations/tribes located within Ottawa County which includes the Eastern Shawnee Tribe, Miami Nation, Modoc Nation, Ottawa Tribe, Peoria Tribe, Quapaw Nation, Seneca-Cayuga Nation, Shawnee Tribe, and Wyandotte Nation; also known as the Inter-Tribal Council, Inc. 


Participates as a cohesive team member to involve local clientele, the Inter-Tribal Council, Inc. and advisory groups to plan, implement and evaluate the total Cooperative Extension county program.Extension educators comply with all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, etc., related to equal opportunity, civil rights, and affirmative action. Extension educators are hired into the organization not into a specific geographic location. It is possible that future circumstances may require relocation.Base annual salary for full-time, entry level educators who have a bachelor's degree is $37,000; a master's degree is $41,000. Starting salary is based upon education and prior relevant work experience. Extension educators hired with only a bachelor's degree are encouraged to work toward completion of an approved master's degree.Continuation of employment is based upon need, performance and available grant funding. Current grant funding approved to January 2028.

Required: A bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences, public health, or similar health-related field is required. Extension experience is desirable.For candidates without a degree in FCS, must be able to successfully obtain the noted certifications below within two years of employment: (certification expenses not covered by employer)No FCS or Education DegreeTake two approved education courses (Pedagogy & Classroom Management)Pass PPAT within two yearsPass FCS OSAT within two yearsNo FCS Degree, but an Education DegreePass FCS OSAT within two yearsProvide proof of passing PPATNo FCS Degree, but Alternatively Certified in FCS and three years teachingNo special requirements


Valid Drivers License. Reliable transportation for travel connected with official duties. Reimbursement for official travel.


Demonstrates ability to effectively listen, communicate, and foster a professional image of OCES by displaying a positive view of the organization both internally and externally.
Demonstrates willingness and ability to effectively manage time and resources and foster community development and engagement, and adapts well to changing priorities, situations, and day-to-day demands.


Possesses strong writing, communication, and organizational skills. Affirms a commitment to continued personal professional development. Demonstrates leadership ability in designing, promoting, presenting, and evaluating programs and the to work directly with the community and diverse audiences. Provides evidence of ability to build and maintain relationships and work effectively with clientele, advisory groups, volunteers, other professionals, and other key stakeholders. Demonstrates competency and effective use of computing and computer-based communications technology.


Exhibits willingness to work extended hours including evenings and weekends. Occasional overnight travel is required. Available personal transportation is required and a travel allowance is provided.



Preferred: Master's in Agriculture or Family and Consumer Sciences. 


Previous experience in Cooperative Extension or closely related work is desirable.
