Summary
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the team as it expands into residential property management. Reporting to the Accounting Manager for CS Living, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for the daily accounting and month end reporting for a portfolio of residential properties. This role will work closely with the asset management, property management and finance teams. In addition, he, she or they will collaborate with the Accounting Manager in setting and refining policies and procedures as the department expands along with mentoring and training of new accountants.
Primary Responsibilities
Detailed review of CS Living financial statements for accuracy and completeness (profit and loss statements, balance sheets, general ledgers, and sub-ledgers)
Create and post journal entries, including and month end accrual and prepaid entries, and maintain related account reconciliations
Prepare internal invoices related to property charge backs, review expenses for proper back up and coding
Assist Accounting Manager with daily cash account transactions, including perform limited treasury functions such as initiating of wires and preparation of cash funding requests. Prepare bank reconciliations
Collaborate with other departments to ensure proper reporting of financial information
Meet periodically with property accountants and asset management teams to discuss property performance and financials
Analyze financial data for variances and provide relevant information to the operations team
Assist the Accounting Manager with more complex issues and tasks as needed
Work with Accounting Manager in setting and refining policies and procedures, continually focusing on accuracy and efficiency
Assist with financial related questions from accounting, property, and senior management
Participate in system testing, implementation, and data validation during the conversion of property financial records from external parties
Respond to external audit requests
Ensure accurate and timely filing and payment of real estate taxes, sales and use tax, business licenses and personal property taxes as needed
Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as requested
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or working equivalent (if no degree, the working equivalent would be 4+ years of highly relevant accounting experience)
Minimum of 2-4 years of accounting and financial reporting
Knowledge of real estate terms, definitions, and accounting
Knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting required
Demonstrates full understanding of general ledger and sub-ledger
Technology proficient, including Microsoft Word and Excel
