Job Description:

The Director of DLC Boring will lead the DLC Boring Division of Jones Contractors. This includes overseeing directional drilling operations, managing staff, and equipment management. This position reports to the Senior Director of Operations and will work as a Team with the Senior Director of Safety, Senior Director of Compliance, and Senior Director of Project Execution, as well as the Regional Directors and Director of Projects. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to recruit, train, develop, and retain employees and be part of a team while focusing on uncompromised excellence in safety, quality, and productivity.

  • Lead a Team of 4-5 direct reports responsible for leading client relations, planning, manpower, and field execution for the DLC Boring Division. Lead the DLC Construction Manager and Lead Forman, at minimum.
  • Developing and implementing strategic plans to reach the division's and company's goals.
  • Attend all bid walks and project kick-off meetings.
  • Develop and review estimates and interface with the estimating team as required to prepare bid proposals and overall bid reviews.
  • Review and approve all hours coded to Divisional Operations.
  • Manage the materials inventory for the division and review and approve purchases coded to divisional operations.
  • Providing profit/loss projection analysis reports.
  • Overseeing resource management.
  • Management of all Division equipment.
  • Collaborating with internal and external customers to ensure the projects run efficiently.
  • Consulting with clients regarding overall schedules/timelines, safety, insights, areas of improvement, obstacles, etc.
  • Partnering with Safety to control risk management.
  • Establishing roles and responsibilities for core members by the project plan, budget, and business objectives.
  • Analyzing problems and challenges to select the safest, most efficient way to resolve them.
  • Developing and implementing client relationship management strategies.
  • Bridging communication gaps between management, clients, and corporate departments.
  • Provided day-to-day leadership and management of company operations to build infrastructure, grow the business, and increase profitability.
  • Coordinating and optimizing the development of documentation and generating comprehensive reports for management on Key Performance Indicators for projects, including:
  • Safety recordable/incidents: ISN/TRIR, Motor vehicle safety, Environmental safety, High potential near miss, EHS levels I & II, Equipment leaks

• Fatigue management
• Value Creations/Benefit Captures
• Downtime extension
• Planned schedule duration vs. actual duration.
• Unauthorized work release
• Short service employees vs experienced workers
• Change Oder Management
  • Periodic project management as required. Provide oversight from project conception to completion.
  • Periodic estimating as needed: Development of bid proposals for fixed fee, lump sum, cost reimbursable, unit rate, and not to exceed projects.
  • Other duties as directed.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Light lifting 15 lbs. or less
  • Travel as the projects and Business requires

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in an associated role in operating directional boring equipment and utility locating equipment.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Civil and Mechanical), Project Management, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Must be equipped with skills in process improvement, customer service, infrastructure, portfolio management, and strategic initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills that promote effective verbal, written, and electronic networks within the Company and with clients, contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Highly self-motivated with a sense of urgency to complete tasks.
  • Great attention to detail to plan, organize, and coordinate the work of self and others to achieve desirable results.
  • Superior analytical ability to evaluate problems, interpret data, and make proper decisions.
  • Exceptional leadership skills that encourage quality workmanship by requiring accurate, complete, well-organized, concise, analytical, and well-articulated results.
  • Effectively manages time and schedule to meet required deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Bluebeam, and Navisworks.
  • Must be able to work in a professional and confidential environment.
