We are seeking a skilled and experienced Procurement Specialist-Lumber/Wood to join our team. The Lumber Buyer will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing lumber products to meet the company's needs. This role requires a strong understanding of the lumber industry, market trends, and supply chain dynamics. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and negotiation skills, along with the ability to build and maintain relationships with suppliers.
Key Responsibilities:
Sourcing and Procurement: Identify and evaluate potential suppliers of lumber products. Negotiate prices, terms, and contracts with suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and favorable terms for the company.
Market Analysis: Monitor market trends, including supply, demand, and pricing fluctuations. Analyze market data to make informed purchasing decisions and mitigate risks.
Quality Assurance: Ensure that purchased lumber meets quality standards and specifications. Collaborate with suppliers to address quality issues and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Inventory Management: Maintain optimal inventory levels to meet production schedules and customer demands. Coordinate with internal teams to forecast lumber requirements and plan procurement activities accordingly.
Supplier Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers. Communicate effectively with suppliers to address concerns, resolve issues, and foster collaboration.
Compliance and Documentation: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards. Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and supplier communications.
Qualifications:
6 years experience in purchasing and procurement, at least 3 years of Lumber buying
Strong negotiation skills with the ability to drive cost savings and value-added benefits.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret market data and trends.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and experience with procurement software.
Knowledge of lumber grades, species, and characteristics.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
