Job Description:

As the Director of Industrial Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and managing the industrial engineering strategies for J. Crew's retail distribution network. Your responsibilities will span from labor management and engineered labor standards to recommending, implementing, and optimizing robotics, automation, and material handling systems. You will lead a team of industrial engineers, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive process improvement, increase operational efficiency, and enhance overall supply chain performance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic initiatives to optimize the layout, flow, and capacity of distribution centers. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align industrial engineering strategies with overall business goals.
  • Project Management: Manage and lead cross-functional teams to plan, execute, and monitor projects aimed at optimizing the distribution center's operations, including process redesign, layout changes, and system implementations.
  • Capital Budget Management: Develop and manage budgets for capital projects related to process improvements and automation. Ensure projects are executed within budget constraints and demonstrate a clear return on investment.
  • Process Optimization: Conduct thorough analysis of current distribution processes to identify areas for improvement. Implement best practices, industry benchmarks, and engineered labor standards to enhance productivity and reduce operational costs.
  • Technology Integration: Evaluate and implement advanced technologies, automation, and robotics to streamline warehouse operations. Collaborate with IT teams to integrate cutting-edge technologies for improved efficiency and accuracy.
  • Labor Management: Develop and implement engineered labor standards. Utilize labor management software to monitor and analyze workforce productivity.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop a team of industrial engineers. Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members.
  • Continuous Improvement: Establish a culture of continuous improvement, fostering innovation and efficiency throughout the distribution network. Implement KPIs to measure and monitor process improvements and automation effectiveness.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, logistics, supply chain, and IT, to ensure alignment and effectiveness of industrial engineering initiatives.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all engineering solutions and projects adhere to safety, regulatory, and environmental standards.
  • Travel expected up to 30%

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 10 + years of experience in industrial engineering, with a focus on distribution and logistics.
  • Leadership experience, including managing a team of engineers.
  • Proven experience in lean process improvement and project management.
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS) and other relevant technologies.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in managing capital budgets.
  • In-depth knowledge of engineered labor standards and labor management systems.
  • Proficiency in project management software and data analytics tools.

  • Experience reading flow charts, schematics and blueprints.

  • Effective PC skills with MS Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word, Project, Access, Note, Teams) and AutoCAD.
