Responsibilities:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that may be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this internship.
Standard in-field work session consists of eight, 10-hour days in all seasons with six days off between field sessions, if necessary. Work environment is typically outdoors, sometimes under adverse weather conditions, requiring appropriate clothing (e.g., work boots, rain gear, cold-weather gear). At minimum, field technicians are required to have the following personal field tools: backpack, compass, English/Metric tape measure, trowel (e.g., Marshalltown), line level, clip board, pencils, work gloves.
Must be able to walk, hike over various terrains, sometimes over great distances (average daily walking distance up to 2 miles), while carrying both personal and company equipment (e.g., shovels, screens). Must be able to lift heavy loads (e.g., soil-filled buckets) up to 50 lbs. Job requires repeated bending, lifting, screening, kneeling, and digging.
Standard non-field (e.g., in home/office or lab) workdays are 8 hours. Must be able to lift boxes up to 50 lbs. Laboratory work often requires repeated bending, lifting, kneeling, and artifact processing. Should be familiar with typical computer desktop software packages such as Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel. Knowledge of GIS applications a plus.

Archaeology Intern (Graduate Level) will perform an assortment of tasks on a rotating basis, as needed and as available, including, but not limited to, geomorphological survey, archaeological pedestrian reconnaissance/survey, archaeological testing, archaeological data recovery/mitigation, artifact processing, analyses, and/or curation, technical writing, and public education and outreach.
