Highlights about the Surgical Tech Role
The Surgical Tech at Brigham and Women's Hospital plays an important role in the operating room and is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the operating room environment, as well assists with the peri-operative care of patients. They work closely with surgeons and nurses to ensure the smooth and efficient function of the operating room. A Surgical Tech must have a strong understanding of sterile techniques and be able to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment.

Our patient population spans the range from adults to seniors, with 11 services and 48 operating rooms with multiple subspecialties.

Qualifications
Qualifications for a Surgical Tech
Successful completion of an accredited surgical tech program -or-
Successful completion of a training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard or in the United States Public Health Service
Obtain a certified surgical tech credential (see below)
May not currently hold a valid nursing license.
Certification for a Surgical Tech
Valid surgical tech certification required within one year from the date of graduation from an accredited surgical tech program -or-
Has maintained employment as a surgical tech in a surgical facility on or before July 1st, 2013.
Surgical tech credential must be administered by a nationally recognized surgical tech certifying body accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies and recognized by the American College of Surgeons and Association of Surgical Techs
