Salary: $33.29 - $48.03 Per Hour

We are actively seeking an experienced Head Staff Development Specialist to join the Housing for Health (HFH) Department within the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. In this critical role, the Head Staff Development Specialist will lead the design, development, implementation, and supervision of the CHAMP training program, ensuring that participants acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in their respective roles. This position involves overseeing a team of trainers, coordinating training activities, and fostering collaboration with various departments to align our training initiatives seamlessly with our organization's strategic goals. Success in this position requires a combination of technical expertise, adeptness in creating employee training resources, a solid foundation in training principles, effective communication, and mastery of evaluation techniques for training programs.

This position may involve occasional travel within Los Angeles County, encompassing participation in in-person training sessions, collaboration meetings with HFH personnel, and interactions with contracted agencies. Additionally, it may entail attending off-site meetings, conferences, and other relevant events as deemed necessary for the position's responsibilities. The functions of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Team Leadership


  • Lead a team of CHAMP trainers, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.

  • Set performance goals and conduct regular evaluations to ensure the team's growth and development.

  • Foster a positive and collaborative training environment.

Training Program Development


  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify training needs and content.

  • Design and develop technical training programs and materials, including manuals, presentations, and e-learning modules.

  • Ensure training content is up-to-date and aligned with industry best practices.

Training Delivery


  • Conduct training sessions for CHAMP users, ensuring a clear and engaging learning experience.

  • Supervise and support trainers in delivering training programs.

  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of training methods and materials.

Training Coordination


  • Schedule training sessions, coordinate logistics, and manage training resources.

  • Maintain training records and ensure compliance with training requirements.

  • Handle training-related administrative tasks efficiently.

Stakeholder Collaboration


  • Collaborate with department heads and managers to understand specific technical training needs.

  • Align training initiatives with organizational goals and objectives.

  • Communicate training schedules and progress to relevant stakeholders.

Evaluation and Improvement


  • Implement evaluation methods, such as assessments and feedback surveys, to measure training effectiveness.

  • Analyze training data to identify areas for improvement and make necessary adjustments to training programs.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and automated forms

  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment with varying priorities.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE


  • One year's experience as a Staff Development Specialist or an equivalent position responsible for developing, implementing, and presenting training programs - OR - A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university Communications, Business Administration, social science, or a related field and at least two years of experience in a staff capacity with responsibility for planning, developing, conducting, and evaluating staff development training programs and related activities.

Certificates/Licenses/Clearances


  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

  • Successful clearance through Los Angeles County’s Live Scan process.
