Position Summary
Under the direction of the Mobile Equipment Manager, the Mobile Mechanic is responsible for using computer-based programs to schedule services and to plan and execute preventative maintenance on heavy equipment such as wheel loaders, off-highway trucks, excavators, skid steer loaders, and other earthmoving equipment. The main objective of the Mobile Mechanic is to perform certain maintenance activities to prevent failures and optimize equipment operating costs.
This position is based in New Braunfels, TX.
Requirements
Must have a flexible work schedule and be able to work some nights and weekends
Follows safety policies and procedures as written
Performs data entry on all services performed with the use of a laptop computer
Operates mobile equipment as needed for testing
Supports operations with parts inventory and orders supplies as needed
Assist operations with contamination control processes
Inspect equipment during services using digital platforms
Assists Plant Managers in initiating preventive maintenance program and coordinating activities. Hands-on field measurements are included in this duty
Responsible for planning and scheduling preventative maintenance activities
Understands how to test and perform basic repairs to automatic grease systems
Obtain oil samples during service. Interpret oil sample results and follow-up as needed
Identify and follow-up on proactive repairs discovered during inspections
Perform repairs and any other work as directed by supervisor
Knowledge of engine, power train, brake, electrical and hydraulic systems
Minimum Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent GED required
Minimum of 5 years heavy equipment maintenance experience
Maintenance planning experience of 2 or more years is preferred
Trade school or related mechanical/technical certification preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to read, write and verbally communicate in English language
Knowledge of maintenance of heavy equipment/Caterpillar and Komatsu preferred
Computer-based programs such as JDE, Oracle preferred
Ability to use mobile devices for emails, texts and CMMS
Ability to work 45 hours a week
Physical Requirements
Work requires the ability to lift a maximum of 100 lbs
Must be able to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing/walking, balance, bend from trunk, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects
Work requires the ability to perform sustained reaching overhead
Work requires the ability to perform work while lying on back for prolonged periods of time and in some cases cramped quarters
Work requires the ability to work in areas with the potential for high noise levels
Work is performed 70% outdoors in all environmental temperatures and weather and 30% indoors
Able to reason through difficult operations problems, resolve said problems and/or relate same to others
