Description:
Applicants are invited to apply for a postdoctoral position in Department of Pharmacology at Tulane University School of Medicine to conduct NIH-funded research on assessing the role of Trpv4 channels in regulating lymphatic vascular function in health and disease. The laboratory utilizes microdissection techniques, pressure myography, and confocal microscopy to assess the function of isolated and pressurized lymphatic vessels ex vivo; and high resolution, stereo fluorescence microscopy to assess lymphatic vascular function in vivo and in situ. The selected postdoctoral research fellow will be required to have demonstrated experience working with animals (i.e., mice and rats). The postdoctoral fellow will independently conduct experiments to understand the extent to which Trpv4 channel activity contributes to the overall function/dysfunction of collecting lymphatic vessels in healthy controls, as well as in mouse models of diet-induced obesity and metabolic syndrome. Although some training will be provided, the postdoctoral fellow will be expected to perform microdissection of lymphatic vessels from rodents, imaging of intracellular calcium activity, in vivo imaging of lymphatic contractile function, molecular assays (e.g., PCR, western blot, etc), and preparation of single-cell suspensions for single-cell RNA sequencing. The candidate should be able to collect, analyze, and interpret data, compose manuscripts for publication, write and submit grants, supervise and train students, help with lab maintenance and ordering of supplies, assist with teaching Medical Pharmacology Problem Based Learning, and help with animal colony management.
Applicants must have a strong background in vascular biology/physiology. Preference will be given to individuals with demonstrated experience in areas related to lymphatic biology.
1. PhD., MD. or equivalent degree with a strong background in cardiovascular biology.
