Responsibilities

This position oversees the activities of both the Architecture and Engineering network groups.


Provides leadership and oversight assistance with the Information Technology Services (ITS) Network and Communication Technologies activities including voice, data, electronic access, video communications systems and wide area network (WAN) connectivity campus-wide. Responsible for the ITS Core Network & Communications Services, Network Deployment and Network Engineering strategic & operational planning, budgeting and project management related to campus-wide information transport systems, network management support, network appliances and various related support facilities and equipment.


Assists the director with operational planning, design, construction, installation, maintenance, budgeting and daily operations of the ITS Network and Communication Technologies and related campus wired and wireless infrastructure.


Responsible for the coordination and development of campus-wide contracts for ITS Network and Communications Technologies. Primary facilitator and negotiator for ITS Network & Communication Technologies Request for Proposals (RFP), Request for Information (RFI), Invitation to Negotiate (ITN), Service Level Agreements and also Memorandums of Understanding with internal and external customers and stakeholders (including vendors, suppliers).


Assists with the strategic and operational planning of the ITS Network and Communications Technologies network architecture and engineering standards campus-wide. Responsible for interpreting and applying general university, information technology networking and communications policies, standards and guidelines. Responsible for the development, coordination, implementation and also monitoring of the related SACS Institutional Effectiveness Program Outcomes.


Partners and collaborates with other members of the ITS Executive Management team to provide leadership, strategic and operational planning, management and administration of the department's campus-wide IT initiatives.


Responsible for the review, approval and monitoring of all Level One (1) networking related acquisition (below $20K) for the campus in collaboration with the FSU Purchasing Office.

Qualifications

Master's degree and four years of experience related to technical services or a Bachelor's degree and six years of related experience.


A valid Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain one.

Other Information

These network groups manage the major routers and firewalls that connect the 162 buildings (including the RESNet student housing network) to the Tallahassee Campus backbone, the routers and firewalls in the Panama City Campus, as well as connectivity for multiple remote sites within Tallahassee and the surrounding area. They also manage the campus Internet edge peering with our ISP, the FSU Data Center environment housed at NWRDC as well as connectivity into both the AWS and Azure Cloud environments. A total of 17 wireless controllers are used to manage the access points and clients who on average consume around 16 Gigabytes of Campus and ResNet traffic daily. These network groups serve as the highest level network support for every department on campus as well as every group within ITS.
