Duties: Working at Penn Engineering in the Cremins Lab, the research specialist performs routine laboratory experiments focused on tissue culture experiments on embryonic stem cells, neural progenitor cells, induced pluripotent stem cells and organoids. Harvest and grow MEF feeder layers and conduct and optimize transfection assays and also prepare and characterize lentiviral particles for genome engineering. Assist the lab in the long-term culture of whole brain organoids. Perform clonal selection and screening after transfection/transduction and profile cells with immunofluorescence staining. Maintains an orderly lab notebook, records, interprets and analyzes data within prescribed methods.
Position is contingent on continued funding.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Prior lab experience with basic molecular biology techniques, virus packaging, or cell culture preferred. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently is essential. Flexibility and collaboration amongst lab mates to cover evening/weekend work to feed and passage iPS cells is required.
