Advertised Job Summary:

The Coordinator of Facilities, Space, and Logistics is responsible for handling issues related to the research and teaching infrastructure in several science-related departments, primarily providing support to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, while providing administrative and logistical support to departmental faculty. Oversees building maintenance and coordinates with CAS Facilities as needed. Oversees department renovations and construction projects. Serves as a departmental safety liaison to the Chemistry Lab Safety Committee teaching and research laboratories. Works closely with EHS to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Manages the inventory of major (research and teaching) equipment in the department. Updates and maintains signage and departmental directory, ordering new signage as needed.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent and 3 years related experience in business management, public administration, facilities management, or administrative services; or equivalency.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a research and/or teaching laboratory setting and/or familiarity with the University and its general operation preferred


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and time management skills. Detail-oriented and able to juggle multiple responsibilities. Great analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat. Knowledge of, or ability to learn, University policies and procedures, and general operation. Working knowledge of research and teaching laboratories (including applicable Health and Safety regulations). Ability to follow direction in the effective use of chemicals, care for tools and equipment, to ensure proper safety in the work place. Ability to learn or knowledge of area specific responsibilities. Commitment to the professional appearance and functionality of the University facilities. Ability to perform manual labor and lift up to 50 lbs.


Job Duty:

Working primarily with the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, communicates with CAS Facilities regarding building maintenance issues such as roof leaks, water outages, and basic maintenance concerns. Updates and maintains signage and the departmental directory, ordering new signage as needed. Coordinates efforts involved with renovation of research and teaching laboratories.

Supports other departments in the College of Arts & Sciences to include, but not limited to: School of the Earth, Ocean, and Environment (SEOE), Department of Physics and Astronomy, Department of Psychology, Department of Anthropology, and Department of Geography, by communicating building maintenance issues & outages, coordinating lab renovations for new faculty members, coordinating lab decommissionings by retiring or departing faculty members, signage updates, and coordinating moving of non-functional and surplus equipment to Consolidated Services.

Serves as a departmental liaison for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, helping monitor safety in research labs in the Graduate Science Research Center and providing backup support to the STB Stock Room Manager for teaching labs. In coordination with Principal Investigators, Instructional Faculty, EHS, & the Chemistry Lab Safety Committee, ensures compliance with Health & Safety regulations, fire codes, etc. for teaching and research laboratories. Verifies that common equipment and common work areas are compliant with all safety regulations. In coordination with the College, ensures that common equipment (autoclaves, centrifuges, freezers, cold rooms, etc.) remain in good working condition.
