The Florida State University Libraries in partnership with the School of Information invites eligible School of Information Masters and Ph.D. program students to apply for Graduate Assistantships in the University Libraries. The purpose of these assistantships is to provide graduate students with valuable, applied work experience that will enhance their classroom learning and their marketability to potential employers after graduation.
Responsibilities
Office of Digital Research & Scholarship (DRS): The Office of Digital Research and Scholarship (DRS) is looking to train a GA with an immersive learning experience that will give the successful candidate an introduction to this exciting new area of library practice. Applicants with little to no prior experience are welcome, as GAs will gain practical work experience related to core DRS work areas, which are comprised of three broad areas: Open Access scholarly publishing and advocacy, Digital Humanities research support and instruction, and research impact and infrastructure. The DRS GA will have an opportunity to learn about and gain work experience in these areas and will perform specific duties related to a variety of digital scholarship activities identified by the GA as areas of interest. These areas may be pulled from ongoing DRS projects or developed by the DRS GA in consultation with members of DRS.
Publishing duties may include digital repository services, Alternative/Open Textbook initiatives, publishing partnerships, developing skills with publication policies, digital asset management, and outreach.
Digital Humanities duties may include digital project support (i.e. text encoding, altmetrics, data visualization, GIS mapping, and digital cultural heritage), project development and consultation, multimedia publishing, and working with a variety of digital tools and platforms.
Research impact and infrastructure duties may include preparing reports on bibliometric impact for groups and individuals, creating educational resources about research impact, and supporting several projects related to increasing the adoption and use of ORCID on campus.
Admission into the FSU School of Information Masters or Ph.D. program in
Information is required. Consideration will be given to incoming students; offers will be contingent on acceptance into the program. Note: GAs must be enrolled as
full-time students for each semester of the assistantship.

The stipend is $20.83 per hour and will include a tuition waiver of nine hours each semester.

Remote Work option: Remote students will be considered for the DRS position.
Work Hours/Stipend: The assistantship starts in Fall 2024 with the expectation they will continue each semester until graduation assuming satisfactory work performance and funding. The assistantship requires 20 hours of work each week during the academic term and may include evenings or weekends. The stipend is $20.83 per hour and will include a tuition waiver of nine hours each semester.
