Surgical Technologist, Surgical Services

Position Summary: Functions as the member of the surgical team who assists the surgeon, anesthesiologist/anesthetist and RN in delivering direct patient care during the entire preoperative experience. Acts as the primary scrub person during the operative procedure.

Primary Customers: Patients and their families, physicians and their office staff and all other hospital team members.

• Performs scrub responsibilities according to standard of care, physicians preference and policy and procedure.
• Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and ensures proper instrument during the operative procedure; applies the principles of sterile technique.

Technical Expertise
• Correctly counts during operative procedures according to policy and procedures.
• Accurately cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization according to hospital policy.
• Accurately operates decontamination and sterilization equipment according to OR policy and procedures.
• Accurately documents biological and sterilization information according to OR policy and procedures.

Leadership
• Assists in providing meaningful orientation and ongoing experience to new staff, students and other team members.
• Demonstrates beginning leadership skills related to patient care.
• Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice, including progress toward achievement of annual goals.

PATIENT POPULATION THIS POSITION SERVICES: Infant, child, young adult, adult and geriatric patients.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate of a program of surgical technology of at least one year duration.

Certifications: Certification by the Association of Operating Room Technicians required.

CPR required
