The WestRock Analytical Chemical Services Group supports the company's paperboard testing needs for customers, manufacturing locations, and research initiatives. A scientist's role in the lab is to perform a variety of qualitative and quantitative analysis on samples submitted to the lab in support of business needs.
Responsibilities: • Conduct analysis and characterization of the samples submitted to the analytical group. • Interpret laboratory results and present reports to cross-functional teams with quick turnaround. • Participate in new method development and research projects. • Able to perform multiple tasks with minimal supervision. • Oversee analytical instrumentation and perform maintenance as needed. • Actively participate in and support the WRK safety program.
What You Need: • BS degree in chemistry/chemical engineering or related field is required. • 1-2 years of laboratory experience or master's degree is preferred. • Strong fundamentals in organic chemistry and quantitative data analysis are required. • Experience with GC-MS, FT-IR, ICP and/or HPLC is a plus. • Understanding / experience in packaging or paper-making a plus. • Functions well in a fast-paced environment and manages competing priorities. • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative. • Good written and oral communication skills. • Minimal travel (<10%)
