Position Overview

BostonGene is seeking a highly motivated Automation Engineer to join our automation team in our laboratory located in Waltham, MA. This candidate will support BostonGene's state-of-the-art clinical diagnostic platforms. The candidate will be expected to troubleshoot and maintain automated workflows and platforms to support NGS/Immunology protocols, such as RNA and DNA isolation from tissue, cell free DNA isolation from plasma, library preparation, QC and other manual lab processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the clinical lab team in operating and maintaining liquid handlers, including but not limited to Agilent Bravos, TapeStations, Magnis, and QiaCubes.
  • Independently troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records following standard laboratory procedures, study protocols, and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist lab teams with instrument user training and troubleshooting from an automation perspective.
  • Collaborate with the LIMS development team to ensure seamless integration with our laboratory information systems.
  • Participate in the validation of automation systems and platforms.

Preferred Skills:
  • Automated Liquid Handler Knowledge: Experience and proficiency in operating and maintaining automated liquid handling systems, such as Agilent Bravo, to perform tasks like NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) library preparation, RNA/DNA isolation, and sample processing.
  • Laboratory Automation: Strong understanding of laboratory automation principles and technologies, including robotic systems, instrumentation, and integration with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Instrument Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Proven Ability to troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment and automated platforms independently.
  • SOP Development: Proficiency in developing and implementing SOPs for automated laboratory processes to ensure consistency, efficiency, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Adaptability to New Technologies: Willingness and ability to quickly learn and adapt to new automation technologies, methodologies, and evolving laboratory practices.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions to optimize automated workflows.
  • Strong Organizational Skills: Ability to maintain meticulous records and manage inventory efficiently.
  • Effective Communication: Capable of communicating clearly and collaboratively with colleagues and cross-functional teams.
  • Self-Motivation: Proactive and self-driven, with a strong sense of accountability and teamwork.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in physical or laboratory science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and adapt to evolving laboratory practices.

Additional Information

Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time and perform repetitive tasks inherent to laboratory work.
