Job Description Summary
Plans and conducts basic experiments to meet research project objectives, with close supervision. Assists in performing laboratory experiments and clinical studies for product or material formulation and development. Daily management of laboratory tools, documentations and processes to ensure regulatory compliance and timely completion of project/program deliverables.
Job Description
Under general supervision, the Research Specialist A will investigate the role of specific tumor virus genes and gene products in the development of human cancers. To screen for microbial agents in human cancers and other diseases using microarray, sequencing, and immunological assays. Molecular biology techniques, biochemical assays, and cell biological approaches will be pursued. Implement and perform assays on microarray and deep sequencing platforms. This individual will develop familiarity with outputs from several molecular assays and combine these data sets with phenotypic data such as clinical outcomes. They will also be involved in the management of the lab in terms of supplies and maintenance of equipment and other essential resources utilized by lab personnel. They will work with post-doctoral fellows and other trainees in executing experiments for ongoing projects.
In addition to the above responsibilities, Research Specialist B is expected to develop novel solutions to research questions and employ the established methods. Technology development and troubleshooting will be expected, as well as independently planning experiments with minimal oversight.
Conduct and analyze experiments involving molecular and cell biology-implement and perform assays on microarray and deep sequencing platforms such as DNA and RNA extractions, molecular cloning, whole genome amplification, PCR purification, and microarray data analysis.
Maintain and expand tissue culture, perform cell culture, perform molecular biological assay, prepare media and solutions, clone and purify proteins.
Assist postdocs in designing experiments to support independent research projects.
Analyze and present data at meetings and contribute to writing manuscripts.
Laboratory management - supply purchasing, equipment maintenance, maintaining compliance with safety standards to maintain a safe.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
The position is contingent on continued funding.
Qualifications:
Research Specialist A- Bachelor's Degree and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Research Specialist B- Bachelor's Degree and 2 years to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
