The Cardiac Device Specialist 2 @ Marietta is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high quality, safe patient care. It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses - are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implements the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association.

Overview

The EP device specialist 2 analyzes and reprograms various brands of pacemakers and defibrillators. They provide analysis of heart rhythms on all types of EP devices in person and over telephone monitoring. In addition, the EP device specialist 2 uses their clinical skills to evaluate medical status of the patient in relation to cardiac device function and clinical outcome. They use their understanding of medications and cardiac problems to evaluate vital signs, Lung and heart sounds as well as lab values.



Responsibilities

Core Responsibilites and Essential Functions



  • Patient Evaluations
    * cardiac device checked in clinic
    * Cardiac devices checked remotely from home.
    * Requires proper evaluation of patient devices that treat irregular heart rhythms and prevent sudden death. The knowledge comes from training, education and clinical experience.

  • Clinician Support
    * Information from patient checks impact treatment of Physicians, Mid- levels, and nurses.
    * Interpretation of the data obtained by the evaluation impacts medical management with focus on treatment of Atrial fibrillation, Congestive heart failure, Ventricular tachycardia, Syncope, CVA's, TIA's and pharmacological support.
    * The data must be accurate and prioritized for benefit of the patient.

  • Inpatient Care
    * Review of patient symptoms, history, medications, activity and QOL.
    * Must establish trust and communication with the patient during office evaluations. Patients exhibit anxiety and fear.
    * These checks determine proper function and device related issues that can be addressed with appropriate device management.These include reprogramming, education, reassurance and comfort.

  • Outpatient Care
    * Patient evaluation and care from home.
    * Phone communication to respond to patient needs around medical status and cardiac device function.
    * Understanding multiple experiences of patients pertaining to cardiac status. Great deal of training involved in handling remote device monitoring.
    * Checking and documenting data from multiple online management sites. This provides up to minute information about device function and patient treatment.
    * Responsible for responding to patient in timely fashion.
    * Handling of such data is complex and with large volume.

  • Compliance
    * Maintain accurate compliance with follow up of patients according to guidelines set by various organizations, Heart Rhythm Society, ACC, AHA ,CMS.
    * Knowledge of guidelines vital to compliance and identification of scheduling procedures, follow ups, and replacement indicators.
    * Compliance also addresses device advisories and recalls.
    * Answering questions about surgical clearance.
    * Reporting and contacting industry engineers about abnormal device function or observations.

  • Qualifications

    Required Minimum Education



  • Graduate of an accredited/approved school of nursing Required


  • Required Minimum Experience



  • Minimum 3 years cardiac related position
    Required


  • Required Minimum Skills



  • LPN or RN and able to interpret Cardiac rhythms


  • Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)



  • Lic Practical Nurse 1.00 Required 1.00

  • Reg Nurse (Single State) 1.00 Required 1.00
