This position will be responsible for the operational management and the evolution of the Packaging and Supplier Compliance steps of the supply chain process. This position will work cross-functionally with Merchandising, Marketing, Supply Chain and Operations as well as with our vendors and 3rd party inspection/audit firms to ensure F&D's vendors are meeting F&D specifications. In addition, the position should develop strong win/win relationships with suppliers focused on safety and efficiency, thereby improving performance and profits. This person will be expected to bring critical evaluation and creative design solutions to all packaging projects.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably in Packaging)
5+ years of relevant experience (preferably in Retail)
Knowledge of supplier qualification processes and supplier performance metrics preferred
Understanding of statistical methods, quality tools and methodologies preferred
Product packaging and structural design background and experience
Experience with packaging management including developing/analyzing structural packaging solutions and familiar with packaging software such as CAPE, TOPS, Best Load, and Artios CAD.
Must be analytical, detail oriented and highly organized
Possess good process experience, judgment and the ability to recognize key problems
A demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally within the company, as well as globally with suppliers and 3rd party firms. Strong collaboration skills with both local and international teams.
Experience working with international vendors preferred
Must possess excellent customer service skills and work well under pressure
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
Ability to work independently, within a team across all levels and diverse cultures, and the ability to lead team projects
Intermediate to advanced level Microsoft Office Suite skills (especially Excel)
Essential Job Functions
Develop, maintain, and manage packaging requirements and specifications.
Work and build relationships with cross-functionally in the development of safe, well designed, efficient, and cost- effective packaging solutions.
Develop and analyze packaging designs, engineered drawings, photos, and packaging specifications necessary for compliance with International standards, company defined safety 'best practices', special handling conditions and performance within Floor & Decor's complex supply chain.
Provide technical services for continuous improvement efforts involving packaging materials, unit load optimization, and pallet design.
Work closely with Global Suppliers, Merchandising, Distribution, International, E-Commerce, and Domestic Logistics on analyzing and issuing CAPA when necessary for continuous improvement initiatives.
Recommend and lead packaging development programs that improve operational efficiency, safety, cost, damage or provide competitive advantage
Work with customers and suppliers to design, develop, perform and manage the packaging testing process to assure product quality requirements.
Conduct frequent audits at various points in the supply chain to enable safer, more efficient, and cost- effective packaging designs.
Maintain a database of packaging guidelines and specifications along with item drawings for all approved packaging.
Stay current with software updates, industry standards, trends and technology developments
