Job Description:

Ferris Mfg. Corp., a successful and long-established Medical Device Manufacturer, is seeking a responsible, self-motivated, hard-working, and detail-oriented Membrane Line Supervisor. The Membrane Line Supervisor is accountable and responsible for mixing, membrane line operations and personnel, to fulfill the volume output and timing assigned by the Plant Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

Supervision of Assigned Personnel
  • Monitor daily performance of employees and provide timely feedback
  • Train line and operators and inspectors
  • Assure that workers follow approved safety, operational, and other procedures
  • Provide periodic feedback and written evaluations to management about assigned personnel
  • Assist with performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and hiring decisions

Membrane Line Operations
  • Operate equipment according to the approved procedures to make membrane that meets approved specifications
  • Monitor and track line operational metrics
  • Assure that equipment is operational and safe
  • Assure preparation and review and sign manufacturing and maintenance records.
  • Follow prescribed manufacturing and maintenance schedules
  • Maintain SOP's by reviewing/submitting changes in timely fashion to assure safety, accuracy, and efficiency
  • Improve overall line productivity. Propose and implement enhancements to equipment, procedures, and personnel according to targets agreed with Management
  • Immediately troubleshoot incidental problems to keep line in operation
  • When needed, follow NCR and CAPA procedures to resolve problems

Raw Material Handling and Storage
  • Assure that all materials are stored in accordance with prescribed environmental and other conditions, with respect to their unique chemical and physical properties
  • Assure employee awareness and understanding of physical and chemical hazards
  • Assure material handling is conducted in a safe and consistent manner by all employees, regarding relevant hazards

Interaction with Other Departments
  • Work with the Engineering and Maintenance Department personnel to assure that the room and equipment is ready for operation and in compliance with safety requirements
  • With Engineering, determine responsibility for design, fabrication, assembly, and qualification of new or changed equipment and processes for membrane line
  • Work with the Quality and Regulatory Department to assure that the personnel, room, and equipment are qualified and in compliance with internal and external requirements
  • With Engineering and QA, mutually agree on responsibility to set up, calibrate, operate, and improve existing measuring devices, equipment, and fixtures for membrane line
  • Estimate and calculate physical and chemical parameters; time/cost/value/payback
  • Complaints, CAPAs, qualifications-provide support as requested
  • Perform testing, improve and qualify methods
  • Identify relevant external documents; perform reviews and gap analysis

Membrane Line Materials and Product Development
  • Accomplish projects in timely fashion as agreed with Management
  • Communicate with other departments
  • Evaluate chemicals, ingredients, materials, formulations
  • Prepare reports, procedures, specifications, and drawings
  • Read, interpret, and apply standards
  • Keep records, such as lab book, to facilitate regulatory, patent, and legal needs

Miscellaneous
  • Use education and experience to serve, support, and advise direct reports and other internal departments
  • Accomplish other tasks as assigned by Manufacturing Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1 to 3 years' work experience in a manufacturing and regulated environment required
  • BS degree in engineering or manufacturing disciplines or equivalent experience preferred
  • Supervisory experience with direct reports required.
  • Basic literacy to operate hardware (computers, copiers, and faxes), use software (word processing - MS Word, spreadsheets - MS Excel, email, websites) and learn systems unique to the company/task.
  • Computer Aided Design experience is desirable
  • PLC (Programmable logic controller) programming ability, and ability to interface with equipment and other controls is desirable
  • Compile, manipulate and analyze data sets

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence; communicate effectively and politely in person or on the phone to collect/give information and to accomplish tasks. Read, analyze, and interpret common and specialty scientific and technical books and journals. Respond to common inquiries or requests from assigned employees and internal coworkers; write reports that conform to prescribed style and format. Effectively present information to supervisor, assigned employees, Management, and internal personnel.
