Job Description:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
The Elementary Assistant Principals is a full-time, 12-month administrator who works in collaboration and under the guidance of the building principal to provide leadership with supervision, instruction and the general administration of a comprehensive and equitable elementary program; maximizing academic performance and the physical and social/emotional well-being of all students in alignment with the District mission and core commitments.

IMPROVING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY

Curriculum & Instruction

  • Lead curriculum development, implementation, and assessment.
  • Working with building and district leadership, plan, coordinate and implement professional development.
  • Under the direction of building and district leadership support the sustained implementation of district and building initiatives.
  • Develops a master schedule that provides all students a comprehensive education.
  • Analyze and disseminate discipline-specific information including, but not limited to, state and district regulations.
  • Chairs and facilitates annual reviews, IST meetings, PST meetings, and 504 review meetings as applicable.

Assessment

  • Coordinate ordering, scheduling, administering, and scoring of assessments.
  • Prepare and disseminate assessment data and summary reports.
  • Analyze building, district, and state assessment data to inform curriculum implementation and instructional decisions.

Resource Management

  • Provide orientation throughout the school year for new staff members.
  • Ensure that teachers have necessary materials through the budget process.
  • Assist and support substitutes, as needed.
  • Coordinate activities related to field trips, guest speakers, special events, student awards, and assemblies, etc.

Working with Students

  • Implements programs appropriate to individual student needs to support their well-being and continuous academic growth.
  • Assures the presence of effective programs and procedures for the general counseling of students, adhering to the District Code of Conduct.
  • Coordinate and support interventions to support students.
  • Leads problem-solving processes to maximize student success through both instructional and curricular leadership.
  • Facilitate culture through a restorative practice lens; ensure social, emotional health, and well-being for all students.
  • Coordinate and facilitate health and safety processes and drills, including but not limited to, safety drills, building threat assessment team, medical emergencies, etc.
  • Implement and facilitate best practices to ensure regular student attendance and accurate attendance reporting.


Maintaining Effective Communication with the Community

  • Support building and District leadership in communicating the curriculum, school program, and special events.
  • Represent the building and District at various extracurricular events.
  • Partner with parents/guardians to support them with the educational, personal, social, and emotional growth of their children


Other

  • Assist with the day to day operations of the school.
  • Coordinate supervision of lunch, study hall, transitions, arrival, dismissal, etc.
  • Performs other related duties and undertakes special projects under the guidance of building and district leadership.


PERSONNEL

  • Under the direction of the principal supervise staff, including but not limited to, teachers, teaching assistants, aides, etc.

Supervise and evaluate teachers to enhance curriculum and instruction.

  • Works in conjunction with the building principal to recruit, evaluate and hire an exemplary and diverse faculty and staff.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrates unquestionable integrity and a firm belief in the worth and potential of all students.
  • Holds New York State Certification as a School Building Leader (SBL) or its equivalent.
  • Has successful tenured experience in education.
  • Demonstrates a collaborative leadership style and a firm commitment to facilitating high performing teams.
  • Demonstrates high emotional intelligence and strength in building personal relationships.

The Elementary Assistant Principal is directly responsible to the building Principal and District leaders for developing and maintaining an excellent instructional program for every student.
