This would be a great opportunity for someone looking for variety(Audit, Tax, Monthly/Quarterly/Yearly Accounting) with a smaller CPA firm. The ideal candidate will have previous experience as an Auditor with non-profit clients or a Staff Accountant within a non-profit organization. Our client is excited to train and develop someone on the tax portion of this role. Very limited travel to Metro Detroit, Ann Arbor or Lansing area. 40-50 hour weeks during busy tax season and flat 40 the rest of the year.
Responsibilities
Financial Auditing:
Conduct thorough financial audits of non-profit organizations in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant regulatory standards.
Analyze financial statements, records, and documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance, and transparency.
Identify and report on areas of financial risk, inefficiency, or non-compliance, providing recommendations for improvement as necessary.
Tax Compliance:
Prepare and file tax returns for non-profit entities, including Form 990 and applicable state filings, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.
Stay abreast of changes in tax legislation and regulations affecting non-profit organizations, advising clients accordingly to optimize tax strategies and minimize liabilities.
Accounting Services:
Assist non-profit clients with day-to-day accounting activities, including bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, and financial reporting.
Provide guidance on internal control procedures, financial systems implementation, and best practices for financial management within the non-profit sector.
Work closely with the department heads to understand and ensure accuracy of all financial reporting activity
Assist in preparation and distribution of financial statements
Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules according to monthly close schedule
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Accounting, Economics, or Finance
1 - 5+ years' experience in accounting - audit experience is a plus
