Our North Carolina team is growing and looking to add a Geotechnical Engineer/Geologist to our Raleigh office.

The ideal candidate for this opportunity will be self-motivated and have 4 - 6 years of experience in the geotechnical engineering discipline. In this position you will: assist the Project Engineers / Project Managers, participate in the execution of field investigations, compile geotechnical laboratory and field-testing results, perform geotechnical analyses, and prepare geotechnical reports.

The responsibilities of the position include, but not limited to the following:


  • Assist the Project Engineers / Project Managers and participate in field assignments including boring layout and utility clearance, coordination with drilling contractors, supervision of drill rig and geotechnical field investigations, logging of borings and test pits.

  • Assist with lab testing assignment and compilation of lab and field-testing results.

  • Perform geotechnical engineering analysis under the supervision of senior staff including soil/rock classification, slope stability analysis, earth retention systems, shallow and deep foundation design, settlement, ground improvement, trenchless drill design, and geologic hazard evaluation.

  • Assist the Project Engineers / Managers and prepare geotechnical reports.

  • Assist the Project Managers in budget management, client updates, and general project management tasks

  • Proactively troubleshoot and problem-solve with practical, client-focused solutions throughout the geotechnical and construction phases of projects

The ideal candidate will have:


  • 4 - 6 years of geotechnical engineering experience

  • Positive work attitude and ability to work safely and efficiently when managing multiple tasks

  • Ability to work independently or with a team in a multi-disciplinary environment

  • Desire to work onsite during geotechnical and construction phases of projects

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office - including Word, Excel, and Power Point

  • Experience with software packages including gINT, MicroStation, and OpenRoads preferred

  • An ability to communicate clearly and effectively with peers, supervisors, clients, and subcontractors

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geology, MS desirable

  • EIT/GIT preferred

  • The successful candidate will have the ability and willingness to travel up to 20%.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Kleinfelder offers an excellent compensation and benefits package, including: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) plan, and paid holidays. The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the Washington Pay Transparency Law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Salary range: $57,908 - $96,594.
