Position Title CNC Operator / Programmer Classification Non-Exempt Department Burbank MNF-Machine Shop Location Burbank-Saturn Fasteners Reports To Operations Manager (or Department Lead where applicable) Original Issue Date Latest Revision Date 1/18/2024; $35/hour ($72,800 annually) Position Summary The CNC Operator/Programmer is expected to program, set up and run jobs as well as have a comprehensive understanding of all CNC machining and programming operations. The role is tasked with working in close concert with the engineering team to increase productivity and optimizing machining by establishing a turn key machine shop with rapid delivery of prototypes using, but no limited to, milling machines, lathes, turning centers and horizontal mills using engineering drawings. Company and customer specification, continuous improvement of processes and products are ongoing function of this important position. Position Responsibilities (Job Skills) Include but are not limited to 1 Adheres to company and customer specifications, work instructions, engineering prints and work orders 2 Documents the materials and processes used to maintain traceability of product 3 Operates the CNC machine in a safe manner, including loading programs into the CNC machine and executing programs, cutting and drilling of materials 4 Secures stock of material into the machine 5 Programs, sets up, runs and monitors the operating of the machine to ensure proper program performance 6 Deburrs completed machine parts as time permits 7 Provides feedback to supervisor and programmers as to the performance of the program and tooling used for cutting and drilling the material 8 Verifies the accuracy of the parts using calipers, micrometers and other quality equipment as a periphery inspector and reports any suspect parts immediately to the department supervisor or operations manager 9 Ensures that the machine is in proper working order at all times and immediately reports any suspected parts to the department supervisor or operations manager 10 Properly maintains coolant as necessary, including removal of contaminants, proper dilution ratio and cleaning and recharging machine of coolant when necessary or when requested by the department supervisor or operations manager 11 Ability to trouble shoot problems and come up with workable solutions 12 CNC Setup and running operations for both mill and lathes 13 Ability to write advanced CNC programs 14 Ability to program 3 axis 15 Ability to work from setup sheets, blue prints and sketches 16 Ability to setup machines and verify data on set up sheets 17 Ability to use all types of gauges and inspection equipment 18 Ability to meet production and quality standards at all times 19 Ability to accept other tasks based on variances in products produced 20 Other duties as assigned by department supervisor or operations manager Qualifications-Education/Experience 1 Minimum of 5 years experience as a CNC Setup/Programming operator in a manufacturing environment 2 Required High School Diploma or GED + relevant work experience 3 Ability to read and understand engineering blueprints 4 Ability to complete the Job Skill Training Matrix for the CNC Setup/Programmer positions 5 Ability to use all gauges and gauging techniques required for the positon 6 Fluent in English (both with strong verbal and written communication skills) 7 Advanced general computer knowledge 8 Ability to set up, program and operating one or more sizes/types of manufacturing equipment 9 Ability to consistently meeting production and quality standards 10 Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of all required operator documentation 11 Good teamwork skills 12 Ability to identify routine problems, their causes and solutions 13 Ability to use math skills for proper blueprint reading and gauging 14 Ability to assist and help train lower level employees as needed 15 Ability to demonstrate the understanding of the manufacturing process and machine requirements to performance basic and repetitive work assignments 16 Must comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety guidelines and best practices 17 6+ years CNC Setup/Programming Operator experience with aerospace fasteners preferred 18 Previous problem solving and troubleshooting skills/experience preferred 19 Formal mechanical or technical training preferred 20 Experience operating multiple types of manufacturing equipment preferred Travel Requirements No travel is required for this position
