Position: Sr. Post Development Engineer

Type: Contract to Hire

Shift: Day Shift, M-F

Location: Los Angeles, CA- Burbank/Glendale area

Hourly Range: $50 to $70/hour (Based on Experience)

Kelly Engineering is currently working with our client, a leader in the design, development, manufacturing and delivery of Aerospace hydraulic components, systems and services to the global aftermarket and OEM markets to find a qualified candidate. This is a technical role in the Post Development Support Engineering group, supporting legacy parts, and existing design of fluid power and motion control systems and components. The Senior Post Development Support (SPDS) Engineer works with one or more Integrated Product Teams (IPT) to design, analyze, and implement product designs and design improvements in all phases of a product design lifecycle. The SPDS Engineer works with limited supervision, has strong technical skills, proactively seeks support from Chief Engineers or Subject Matter Experts, and can adapt and react quickly to internal and external customer demands.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Primary responsibility is to provide technical design, analysis, and guidance for existing product, product improvements, test components, rigs, and systems.
  • Accountable for decision-making authority on behalf of PDS Engineering for system, component, and/or test rig design and the responsibilities for guiding and directing applicable IPT technical decisions and accomplishment of objectives.
  • Lead and participate in efforts to solve problems with product design, inspection, manufacturing, and test encountered by vendors, company operations personnel, and customers. Consult Chief Engineers and Subject Matter Experts for guidance appropriately.
  • Create and/or guide the creation of technical documents, including Engineering drawings (following ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.34 standards), test procedures, test reports, and design review material. Present product design and substantiating data and analysis, design findings and recommendations to customers and management.
  • Support R&D projects and implementation of new technologies such as Additive Manufacturing.
  • Ensure standardization of products and adherence to engineering processes across multiple projects. Supports continuous improvement by offering input to standard processes and procedures.
  • Collaborate with peers and managers to determine key goals, objectives, and corresponding metrics. Review and amend these actions as appropriate. Focus on the timely achievement of these goals and objectives.
  • Interpretation of the engineering documents. Coordinate update of engineering documents.
  • Component design study and improvement for cost reduction and first pass yield.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering from an accredited institution with two (2) years of design experience OR a Master's degree in mechanical or aerospace Engineering with one (1) year of design experience.
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates that currently reside within 50 miles of the Los Angeles, CA facility will be considered. Active-Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, or electromechanical products
  • Two (2) years of Mechanical Engineering design experience utilizing 3D CAD software
  • Experience in the aerospace and/or automotive industry
  • Experience with CREO
  • Ability to apply Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles and perform tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and material selection for high pressure applications
  • Working knowledge of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), Design for Manufacturability (dfM), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Design of Experiments (DOE), and Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) principles.
