Job Description:


Duties: The Law Enforcement Trainer will be involved in training for any Law Enforcement Agency purchasing a K9 from the PVWDC. Participate in 1 Patrol School and 1 Scent Detector course per year (for LE Agencies and private trainers participating in Train the Trainer program) as well as leading monthly in-service training for Law Enforcement Agencies and civilians with private detection dogs. Also responsible for Training of PVWDC working dogs in training with added focus on PVWDC canines going into careers in law enforcement. Data collection and analysis is critical to contribute to ongoing research, as is engagement and training of volunteers and interns. The Law Enforcement Trainer Coordinator will also represent the PVWDC in the Law Enforcement K9 Community, and actively participate in WDC events, tours, and demonstrations



Qualifications: The candidate should hold a Bachelor's degree, and 2 - 3 years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer in either a local, state or federal department and Law Enforcement K9 Experience, handling a dual purpose K9; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have a minimum level of certification that meets the standards of a State, Federal or Nationally recognized police K9 organization.
Must have handled at least two Dual Purpose police K9s in patrol and scent and worked under the guidelines of a federal, state, or municipal organization
Ideally, have successfully certified at least one police K9 in patrol and/or scent under the standards of a nationally recognized police K9 organization.
Must have experience in training green dogs for both patrol and scent work.
Must be experienced in decoy training.
Preferred that candidate has experience training puppies (ages 8 weeks to 14 months)
Have the ability to plan, organize and execute K9 training seminars for police working dog teams.
Have knowledge of case law pertaining to working canines in law enforcement.
Have demonstrated administrative and leadership skills and attention to detail.


PREFERRED
At least 20 years as a sworn law enforcement officer in either a local, state or federal department.
At least 15 years of Law Enforcement K9 Experience, handling a dual purpose K9.
