Position Summary:

The College of Engineering at the University of Georgia seeks a Clinical Assistant Professor.

This is a full-time, fiscal year opportunity at the Clinical Assistant Professor rank, focusing on the research of antimicrobial and antithrombotic blood-contacting biomaterials. This position will teach one to two courses per academic year. The position is under the supervision of Dr. Hitesh Handa and will be renewed yearly.

We are seeking candidates for a clinical-track faculty position in biomaterials science and engineering at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor. The major responsibilities for this position are to teach and manage antithrombotic and antimicrobial research within the UGA Handa Biomaterials Labs. The new faculty will also act to coordinate laboratory teaching efforts for graduate students and be expected to develop and maintain a rigorous research program.

The lab is in the new UGA Interdisciplinary STEM research building and is funded by competitive grants including several NIH R01s, DoD, and CDC. Our lab's interdisciplinary research focused on the interface of materials, chemistry, bioengineering, biology, and medicine. Our current research focuses on biomaterials, polymer science, blood-surface interactions, antimicrobial surfaces, antifouling surface, and controlled delivery of therapeutic agents (e.g., nitric oxide). We design novel biomaterials and study their applications in medicine and other relevant fields.

Our lab is comprised of an interdisciplinary team including scientists, engineers, and clinicians who aim to study the biocompatibility of medical devices (e.g., insulin delivery systems, catheters, extracorporeal circulation, hemocompatibility, and antimicrobial surfaces). We conduct translational research in an environment that promotes teamwork and collaboration, fosters innovative discoveries, and expedites the translation of these findings to clinical technologies to improve quality of life.
