SUMMARY


Learn to become a Pharmacy Technician. Become proficient in a variety of medication recording and preparation tasks, as well as other duties in support of pharmacy operations. Receive support and training in becoming a pharmacy technician trainee and then a registered pharmacy technician.



Must apply for Pharmacy Technician in Training Licensure prior to start date, as required by the Massachusetts Pharmacy Board of Registration. Must be registered with the state and pass a Board-approved pharmacy technician registration examination within the mandatory time period of minimum 500 hours and maximum of 1500 hours or for more than one year, whichever period is shorter per 247 CMR.



EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS



  • High School diploma or equivalency certificate (e.g. GED, HiSET, TASC Test) from an accredited institution or governmental unit required.

  • Upon employment must possess pharmacy technician in training license in the state of Massachusetts without restrictions from the MA Board of Pharmacy. Licensure in accordance with Pharmacy Staff License Monitoring and Maintenance of Credentials Policy. Assistance is provided.

  • Must not be listed on the Exclusion Database List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) maintained by the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG).



EXPERIENCE



  • One to two years' experience in a service industry is preferred.

  • Prior pharmacy experience and cash handling experience are desirable but not required.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.



SKILLS



  • Working knowledge of cash handling experience preferred.

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills are preferred.

  • Must be team oriented and demonstrate good customer service skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and strong interpersonal skills when interacting with patients and colleagues.

  • Sound judgment with the ability to work and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of medication abbreviation and symbols, common dosage calculations, and storage requirements preferred.

  • Basic computer skills desirable.
