Job Description:

The Grant Accountant operates with supervision from the Senior Accountant of Grants Billing, focusing on managing, monitoring, billing, collections, and reporting for various government and foundation grants. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with grant terms, updating grant budgets, generating billings, and preparing reports. The role entails collaborating with departmental staff, maintaining awareness of relevant regulations, and supporting grant audits.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize accounting systems, particularly in accounts receivable/billing.

  • Proficiently handle General Ledger coding.

  • Review assigned contracts, particularly financial sections.

  • Maintain updated grant budgets in the accounting system.

  • Complete and record grant billings within specified deadlines.

  • Generate monthly grant budget actual reports to track variances.

  • Collaborate with departmental staff to monitor variances.

  • Conduct grant receivable collections to minimize outstanding items.

  • Act as a liaison with grantors when necessary.

  • Prepare periodic and closeout grant reports according to timelines.

  • Assist with budget modifications and new grant budget preparation.

  • Support grant audits as required.

  • Stay informed about relevant laws and regulations.

  • Adhere to departmental and organizational standards.

  • Collaborate with the finance department and provide support as needed.

  • Cross-train as backup for other accounting staff in emergencies.


  • Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or related field.

  • 3-5 years of accounting experience.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

  • Proficiency in software applications and spreadsheets.

  • Understanding of accounting processes and internal controls.

  • Strong research and analytical skills.


  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in the non-profit industry.
