JOB SUMMARY:

Works under general supervision to plan, fabricate, and maintain pattern dies, sprue dies, gauges, or ancillary items of moderate complexity. All types of precision machine shop equipment, hand tools, and measuring device tools are used in moderately complex tasks. Independent and collaborative judgment and skill are frequently required.

Tool Maintenance 'B' may not move for two (2) years unless movement is a promotion within the department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Maintains, Fabricates and Manufactures dies, patterns, and gauges of moderate complexity.
• Using Computers (entering information, use of HWF apps, CAD/CM software, etc.)
• Must be able to read and interpret Product Criteria (PC) and Activity Instructions (AI).
• Must be able to function as a member of a team and be able to work under general supervision.
• Must be able to maintain expected quality levels.
• Comply with all site required policies and procedures including but not limited to: EHS, Quality, Code of Conduct, and the Wichita Falls Employee Handbook.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Analyze machining requirements and mentally determines the necessary procedure to facilitate the task.
2. Performs all set-ups of equipment and molds utilizing knowledge of machine shop practices and procedures as well as a working knowledge of tool and die making (mold making) equipment and techniques.
3. Inspects tools for conformance to established specifications.
4. Performs moderately complex machining using Horizontal Lathes, CNC, Vertical Mills, and Surface Grinders.
5. Sets up, creates, and sharpens drills, tool bits, and cutting tools.
6. Assists in training lower level toolmakers.
7. Plans the repair or modification of complex molds and repairs or modifies as required.
8. Repairs moderately complex damaged tools, gauges, and fixtures per requests from production.
9. Follows tool work order requests per engineering and manufacturing instructions.
10. Manufactures fixtures and tools from moderately complex sketches or electronic models.
11. Maintains records, drawings, electronic files, or other paperwork as required to complete task at hand.
12. Maintains work area in a clean, orderly, efficient, and safe condition.
13. Performs basic machining or salvage operations on certain castings that cannot be machined by other departments (finishing, grinding, etc.).
14. Performs other duties as required.
15. Complies with all EHS rules related to the work environment.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and think logically to analyze situations.
• Must be able to work quickly, safely, and accurately to meet schedules.
• Must have mechanical ability.
• Must have a well-developed sense of spatial relations.
• Ability to be able to work safely, quickly, and accurately to meet schedules.
• Must be manually adept.
• Must be able to communicate by oral/written means to convey results of tool rework.
• Must have a general working knowledge of machines, how to set-up and operate complex equipment, and an understanding of trigonometry, geometry, and general mathematics.
• Must be able to read and work to machining, detailed blueprints, and electronic models.
• Requires nearly constant concentration and alertness.
• Must have a general knowledge of brazing and silver solder techniques for tool repair.
• Must have a general knowledge of tool steel heat treat parameters.
• Work requires attention to safety practices and procedures around machinery and precise, rotating equipment and use of good work habits.
• Must operate precision equipment and measuring devices to collect accurate and meaningful data for the task at hand.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/EQUIPMENT USED:

1. Physical Demands:

• Uses a variety of hand and power tools, precision inspection equipment such as comparators, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and establishes surface plate set-ups.
• Performs moderately complex machining using horizontal lathes, vertical mills, and surface grinders.

4. Work Environment: (Chemical and Physical Exposures)

• Air-conditioned area; exposed to slight degree of noise, oil, dust, fumes, chemicals, nickel, heat or cold.
