Job Summary

The Sr Principal Data Architect is responsible for leading the development, communication, and delivery of the Data Strategy and full Data Management lifecycle solutions that enable business teams, IT teams, and external partners. Lead operational excellence through the establishment and execution of Data Management and Data Governance principles. Lead continuous improvement in solution performance, reliability, compliance and efficiency. Strategically develops, communicates, influences business leaders and executes roadmaps that align to business strategy and measurably drives business growth through business KPIs. Consistently develops and grows expertise in Data Management, Data Quality and enabling technologies.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

• Strategically set the vision and lead the design and evolution of the enterprise Data Strategy, Data Management and Governance.


• Accountable for the delivery of the Data Strategy and Data Management solutions across the Vistra eco system incorporating multiple business units and locations, third party contractors and Managed service providers.


• Champion Data risk management to avoid data loss, manage access to data in a responsible way, and ensure that data quality is trustworthy and fit for purpose, i.e. accountable for the integrity of data, data designs, data security architecture and associated controls.


• Persuasive leader who communicates effectively and obtains buy-in across IT, the business, and external partners.

Education, Experience & Skill Requirements

• 15+ years minimum of progressive experience in the design and creation of complex Data Architecture solutions for diverse applications.


• Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Architecture, Data Engineering, Modeling, etc.


• Expertise in designing solutions for structured and unstructured data.


• Expertise designing scalable data architecture to support both batch and real-time data products and platforms using best-in-class data technologies such as relational databases, data integration, and cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, cloud data warehouse, etc.) for a continuously changing digital landscape.


• Expertise designing and implementing security and access controls to include masking and encryptions, object tagging, role-based access with row and column level security.


• Expertise in full Data Management lifecycle.


• Strategic thinker with expertise to design, communicate, implement, and evolve an enterprise Data Management strategy.


• Strategic thinker who can clearly anticipate future trends, challenges, and consequences, creating breakthrough business strategies and plans to achieve a competitive advantage.


• Excellent Leadership, communication and executive presentation skills; ability to communicate well to both technical and business audiences.

• Operational Excellence: Streamline and Simplification of solution portfolio.


• Continuous Improvement: Increased cost efficiency in solution delivery.

• Experience working in Data Governance programs and related technologies with data stewards, data owners and stakeholders to maintain data quality, data protection, data catalog, and data lineage to ensure trust in the data.


• Experience working in Data Warehouse Developing tools for data mining and analysis, and deploying data management along with understanding of data governance and Data modeling.
