DEPARTMENT: Advancement


POSITION SUMMARY:


With a proud history and traditions that extend back 135 years, Alma College is a leading liberal arts college in Michigan with an alumni base of 15,000. The Director of Alumni and Family Engagement serves as the most visible leader of that alumni base. The position reports to Alma College's Associate Vice President for Advancement and is a key leader on the Advancement team.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:


This position is supervised by the Associate Vice President for Advancement and supervises one direct report, the Assistant Director of Engagement.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:


* Strategic Planning (20%)

* In collaboration with advancement teammates, develop, pursue, and execute a comprehensive, strategic, multi-year plan for alumni and family engagement.
* Create a regional engagement strategy for alumni, parents, and other constituencies who advance the mission of Alma College.
* Revise and refine the Alma Ambassador Program so that it further empowers current alumni and identifies the next generation of alumni leadership.
* Create and implement an annual plan for parent and family engagement, including financial support, creative programming, and thoughtful communication.



* Network Development, Volunteer Leadership, and Event Execution (50%)

* Support lifelong connections among alumni and engage them in advancing Alma College toward its goals by planning and executing annual Alma College traditions,
including:
- Homecoming, a 3-day event each Fall that involves hundreds of alumni, many programs, and includes milestone year class reunions.
- Academic and Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremonies as appropriate and in collaboration with the Provost, Athletics Director, and other key stakeholders.
* Serve as the College's main contact person and leader in support of three important collaborating entities: the Alumni Association Board, parents and families, and the
Student Advancement Association.
- Continue empowering Alumni Association Board and other key alumni leaders to plan, host, and execute alumni engagement events where appropriate.
- Strategically recruit dynamic and dedicated stakeholders who enhance alumni engagement across different communities and networks (e.g., regional champions,
student recruiters, internship sponsors, student mentors).
- Guide and support parents and families, and Student Advancement Association initiatives, to engage students and their families.
* Plan and execute a portfolio of annual regional events in partnership with Advancement staff that will further cultivate relationships with dedicated alumni and other
prospective donors.
* Manage the Alma Ambassador network of volunteers and support the Alumni Association Board in its efforts to provide visible leadership for all alumni initiatives.



* Written and Digital Communication (20%)

* Manage and execute an effective communication strategy that will ensure alumni are consistently well-informed about the College and called to action.
* Partner with marketing colleagues on social media, websites, print, and online marketing campaigns.
* Support Athletics team coaches and Advancement liaisons with their outreach efforts to keep former student-athletes and athletics families engaged via written and digital communication.
* Support the Advancement Office's Annual Fund team in initiatives that seek to build the tradition of alumni philanthropic participation (e.g., Alma Day, Traditions Dinner,
Year-End messaging).



* Other Duties as Assigned (10%)

* As needed, contribute to the overall success of the Advancement Office by stepping up in key moments to assist on special projects while still performing the main
responsibilities of the role.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


* Bachelor's degree
* Excellent organizational skills, including ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
* Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
* Ability to travel consistently during warmer months (April to October)
* Ability to work weekends and evenings
* Ability to handle confidential information
* Experience with technology


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


* Graduate degree
* Significant event-planning experience and/or experience in alumni relations in higher education
* Alma College graduate
* Experience working with underrepresented, first-generation, Pell-eligible, and diverse populations.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


* Travel independently in and out of state via car, airplane, or train
* Sitting at a desk for up to eight hours
* Lifting up to 20 pounds
