The Organization

Mi Familia Vota (MFV) is the Latino led organization with the largest field operation in the nation that uses a holistic approach to building political power. We are located in 8 strategic states AZ, CA, CO, GA, FL, NV, TX, & NC and engage our community around the most prevalent issues to ensure the construction of a healthy democracy and the advancement of a national Latino progressive agenda. MFV utilizes a variety of strategies to reach our community including citizenship, door to door voter education, registration and mobilization, issue organizing as well as leadership development, advocacy, accountability campaigns and litigation.

Mi Familia Vota is a 501(c)(4) organization and Mi Familia Vota en Acción is a 501(c)(3) organization.

State Director Overview

Mi Familia Vota (MFV) seeks a State Director to manage the MFV and MFA teams and programs in the state of Arizona. The AZ State Director will be the lead strategist creating state campaigns and supporting and coordinating the work of their staff to execute campaigns building power with Latino communities. We are looking for someone with strong experience in field operations & campaigns. This leader should have management and coaching skills and be an experienced data-driven campaigner that is focused on building power with communities that need it the most.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Attract & Retain a High Performing Team
  • Recruit, onboard, manage & retain a high quality staff
  • Ensure all staff are well trained & fell well supported
  • Create a strong staff culture focused on our staff values
  • Address HR concerns in alignment with HR Dept & legal guidance
  • Strategic Planning & Program Execution
  • Create state level vision and strategy to ensure the state increases the political power of the Latinx community
  • Oversee implementation of programs at the state to level to include program assessment, integration and evaluation
  • Support field program success - ensuring team has the appropriate tools, processes, and best practices to succeed
  • Fiduciary Responsibility
  • Strategically collaborate with development and finance departments to execute strong fundraising work (ie. relationship management, negotiation, presentation, materials prep)
  • Ensure that committed funding is adequate to support programmatic costs
  • Create monitor annual state operating budget
  • External Leadership
  • Serve as active member/leader of decision-making spaces such as state-wide coalitions, coordinating tables, and donor advised tables
  • Influence decision-making spaces including, but not limited to funding distribution, turf negotiation, and policy decisions
  • Appropriately represent Mi Familia Vota in local and state-wide networks of political influence
  • Be recognized as a collaborative community leader by actively seeking out diverse partnerships through our 'Ocho Patas'
  • Be an external local and national presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes of the local program as a model for regional and national replication
  • Data & Innovation
  • Ensure data management protocols accurately and completely capture data from digital organizing, voter registration, and voter contact (GOTV) efforts that happen in-person and online
  • Ensure that state data is valid and reliable
  • Use data to guide strategy, solve problems, and evaluate success
  • Foster innovation by encouraging new ideas, promoting collaboration, and a willingness to take calculated risks for improvement
  • Follow all data and innovation dept policies and processes, and provide feedback to improve them
  • Communications
  • Develop close relationships with media to highlight organizational work through exclusive media pieces
  • Create clear Calls to Action for programs and campaigns to promote on all digital platforms
  • Align with Communications team on digital and marketing strategy goals for programs and grant fulfillments
  • Execute media appearances - leading the narrative of the organization and our mission
  • Follow organizational branding and communications guidelines and processes.

Desired Qualifications:
  • 5 years in a program development, management, and fundraising role and/or experience in candidate or issue-based campaigns, with an understanding of direct voter contact programs.
  • Understanding of the US political and demographic landscape and desire to engage the Latinx electorate.
  • Strong data management and analysis skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Voter Activation Network (VAN), Every Action
  • Experience conveying the purpose and value of strong program management practices to a wide range of audiences and properly training a team to learn new systems and processes.
  • Effective communicator, detail oriented, flexible and responsive to shifting demands, multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is desired.

Terms of Employment:

Location: Remote (30% travel expected)

Salary Range: $90K to $110K depending upon experience. This is a full-time salaried position that requires a willingness to occasionally work outside of normal business hours (on-call nights and weekends during campaign season)
