The Managing Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations is a key member of the Mass General Hospital Development Office leadership team bringing vision, leadership skills, knowledge, creativity and experience to secure significant philanthropy from corporate and foundation sources. Averaging more than $50 million annually, revenue from corporations and foundations constitutes a significant portion of all philanthropy raised by Massachusetts General Hospital and is integral to the fundraising success of The Campaign for Mass General. The Managing Director will oversee the CEO Roundtable series, which emerged during the pandemic and has become a trusted source of information on health care topics while serving as a pipeline for high level volunteer and philanthropic connections.
Reporting to a Senior Managing Director, the Managing Director works closely with colleagues in the department and hospital, and clinical, research, education, and diversity and inclusion leaders to proactively craft and implement strategies to increase philanthropic support from institutional donors. The successful candidate will be skilled at working with senior foundation staff and trustees on groundbreaking gifts and grants that achieve Mass General's priorities and advance health care innovation.
The Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) program includes two teams - Foundation Relations and Corporate Strategies - comprising 11 professionals dedicated to securing institutional funding for hospital priorities across departments, institutes and centers. The teams specialize in developing and executing strategies that often require coordination among multiple stakeholders and entities. The Managing Director establishes appropriate fundraising goals for the team, and tracks activity against goals, while managing and motivating the team to ensure engagement and optimal philanthropic funding.
The Managing Director is responsible for staying current with new trends in corporate and foundation philanthropy, apprising leadership and other colleagues to maximize success. The Managing Director advises the Development Office on complex compliance issues in institutional gift designation and administration working in partnership with other key units within the department and across Mass General Hospital and Mass General Brigham. The Managing Director will participate in strategic planning with the Senior Managing Directors, Vice President and Senior Vice President and lead and execute projects and programs in support of the leadership team, working collaboratively to identify and address department-wide opportunities and challenges.
The successful candidate will be a collaborative, thoughtful leader with extensive experience managing corporate and foundation giving, and with a track record of identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts (mid six-figure range or more), preferably in academic medicine. Knowledge of major and principal gifts fundraising practices will allow for effective partnership with individual giving colleagues, to navigate the growing emergence of hybrid philanthropic giving vehicles.
