About the Department



The Section of Genetic Medicine continues to shape the future of personalized medicine with successful research programs focused on the quantitative genetic and genomic science. The Section provides extremely valuable collaborations with investigators in the Department of Medicine who are seeking to develop new and more powerful ways to identify genetic risk factors for common, complex disorders with almost immediate clinical application.


The Section of Genetic Medicine conducts impactful investigations focused on quantitative genetics, systems biology and genomics, bioinformatics and computational biology as well as through extensive collaborations of the faculty throughout the Department of Medicine, Biological Sciences Division and the University of Chicago.



Job Summary



Jingxin Wang's laboratory is seeking two Staff Scientists in the field of chemical biology or medicinal chemistry. The Wang lab is focused on development of new tools in chemical biology and nucleic acid biochemistry. The candidate will perform research to create new methods to modulate gene expression, especially for the disease-driving genes that are not suitable to target by conventional small-molecule drugs.



Responsibilities



  • Designs and executes experiments.


  • Writes reports and papers, as well as standard operating procedures (SOP) for selected equipment and experiments.


  • Other laboratory duties such as to train junior researchers and lab equipment maintenance.


  • Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Facilitates and promotes a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.


  • Develops laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manage, analyze and make recommendations on complex data sets for research.


  • Performs other related work as needed.





Minimum Qualifications




Education:

Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.

Preferred Qualifications




Education:



  • Doctoral degree in biological sciences or related field.





Preferred Competencies



  • Knowledge of medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, chemical biology, or cell biology.


  • Knowledge of molecular cloning, reporter gene assay, drug design, or bioconjugation.


  • Publication of at least two refereed papers as the first author (or co-first author) in the above-mentioned field(s).


  • Verbal and written communication skills.


  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
