The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for providing designated diagnostic imaging services across all NEBH locations. This technologist will perform any routine radiographic examinations including, but not limited to: O.R., C-arm imaging, Pain Center, plain film x-ray, fluoroscopy procedures. This tech will be responsible for coordinating Boston Celtic game staffing, radiology equipment maintenance and Physicist inspections of all Celtic radiology equipment. Call shifts, holiday and shift rotation required per department requirements/needs.
Job Description:
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Advocates for all New England Baptist Hospital locations and promotes the hospitals mission to transform the lives of those we serve by promoting wellness, restoring function, lessening disability, alleviating pain and advancing knowledge in the musculoskeletal diseases and related disorders.
  • Patient Care -
  • Verifies patient's I.D. using 2 patient identifiers
  • Verifies demographic and clinical information on the requisition, the imaging device and confirms the presence of written order
  • Greets patients upon arrival and responsible for their care until discharge or appropriate hand-off to other clinic service/personnel
  • Assesses patient's physical and mental condition and ability to tolerate exams and procedures and modifies approach to patient care delivery if needed
  • Exercises confidentiality with respect to patient information
  • Radiographic Exams/Procedures/Tracking process -
  • Performs requested exams in a time frame consistent with departmental and institutional quality standards
  • Consistently and accurately positions patients for each radiographic projection requested
  • Consistently and accurately determines and adjusts exposure factors required to produce a diagnostic image for every exam requested
  • Ensures RIS exam data is correct prior to completion of tracking steps (including appropriate exam type performed for accurate billing, updated clinical information if applicable)
  • Ensures all images have reached PACS prior to performing the "Release study" tracking step
  • Ensures all tracking steps are performed in a timely fashion as to not delay the official report creation on radiologic exams
  • Equipment -
  • Consistently and accurately maneuvers each piece of equipment throughout the organization and ensures continued equipment functionality.
  • Reports any equipment issues in a timely fashion to management
  • For urgent matters - places service call to vendors to expedite timely service repair, then notifies
Lead tech and or manager
  • Ensures equipment is inspected and cleaned daily or as needed
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of human anatomical structure, physiological function and pathology.
  • Consistently practices proper aseptic or sterile technique during appropriate exams/procedures.
  • Radiation Safety -
  • Monitors radiation delivery
  • Utilizes standard Radiation safety practice of Time, Distance and shielding for all exams
  • Reviews own personal radiation exposure monitoring reports to keep exposure within required parameters
  • Non-imaging functions:
  • Acts as a resource/liaison between physicians and their staff, all departments, patients and their families, and the Radiology Departments
  • Shares responsibility for transporting patients to other areas of the facility when necessary
  • Performs clerical duties when necessary; example - entering of orders
  • Exercises initiative in assisting other sections of the facility, for example -serving as a medical assistant, lab assistant, courier, et cetera.
  • May be required to obtain necessary competency or certification to support non-imaging functions
  • May be asked to rotate to other NEBH locations/areas.
Ability to be competent within all NEBH satellite rooms, main department and off-site locations
  • Participates as a team member and is accountable for own work responsibilities. Feedback is solicited and accepted in a positive manner.
  • Responsible for coordination of Radiologic Technologists to provide professional coverage to all Boston Celtic home games, not limited to training (of process) for the Garden and Celtics
  • Responsible for coordination of all testing of all radiology equipment relative to the Boston Celtics, thereby maintaining regulatory readiness and MA state compliance.
  • Will ascertain that all licenses and certification are current and compliant, including State licenses, technologist licenses and physician licenses.
  • Will provide Boston Celtics with proper documentation and identification of all NEBH employees that will be working with the Boston Celtics
  • Responsible for onboarding and proper training of technologists, including but not limited to sending of images, proper documentation pertaining to imaging, proper protocol for visiting teams pertaining to exams and images and the ability to transfer images.
Decision Making: Makes decisions that are guided by general instructions and practices requiring some interpretation. May make recommendations for solving problems of moderate complexity and importance.
Problem Solving: Addresses problems that are varied, requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation using direct observation, knowledge and skills based on general precedents.
Independence of Action: Follows precedents and procedures to perform tasks. May set priorities and organize work within general guidelines. Seeks assistance when confronted with difficult and/or unpredictable situations. Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager.
Patient Contact: Regular, day-to-day contact; both face-to-face and hands-on (having close contact within three feet for at least five minutes). Examples: physicians, clinical nurses, phlebotomist, medical assistants, PFT tech, and x-ray tech.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Has no supervisory responsibilities
Fiscal Responsibility: Has no budget responsibility.
EDUCATION:
Associate's Degree, Radiologic Technology. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts Radiologic License
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (R)
  • HeartSaver

Qualifications
Computer Literacy: Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.
Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group(s) by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
