Job Description:

Our client, one of Houston's top international law firms in downtown Houston has an immediate need for a Senior Tax Accountant. The position will work with a very well tenured team who have grown their careers in the department over the years. They're offering a hybrid work schedule, competitive salary, paid parking/transportation allowance and benefits.

The Senior Tax Accountant will be involved in all stages of the firm's federal, state and local monthly, quarterly and annual tax compliance. This position works closely with the Tax Manager and Director of Financial Accounting to ensure compliance with state, federal, and international tax law through a series of systems and system controls that are designed to ensure accurate, timely reporting. Partnership experience highly preferred.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare schedules and working papers for the firm's partnership federal and state tax returns.
  • Perform tax research as necessary regarding state tax issues as they relate to the firm.
  • Assist in analysis and calculation of required estimated state tax payments and federal tax estimates for the partners.
  • Prepare schedules/analysis of accounts pertaining to various state and local monthly/quarterly tax compliances.
  • Prepare schedules and various files including, but not limited to, sales/use tax returns, VAT returns, 1099s, Texas Franchise Tax, and property tax assessments.
  • Prepare schedules and working papers for the firm's foreign tax returns.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation
  • Provide support with various internal audits and special tax related projects

Skills / Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of tax code, compliance, and procedures, preferably for partnerships.
  • Strong accounting, analytical, and research skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with U.S. federal, state, and local reporting requirements
  • Strong experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements
  • Able to work well independently as well as the ability to work well with stakeholders and communicate the benefits of tax initiatives
  • Strong skills and experience with Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with ProSeries Fixed Asset Manager and Elite 3E is a plus.
