Job Description:




Budget Title: Academic Advisor (SL-3)




Salary: $53,151 - $58,000




The School of Management (SOM) at Binghamton University, State University of New York seeks a full-time academic advisor to provide guidance to undergraduate students.




Core responsibilities of a successful candidate will include:





  • Team-advise approximately 2000 undergraduate students in SOM

  • Provide one-on-one advising

  • Track student degree progress

  • Orient new students to the university, the School of Management, and student curriculum

  • Assist with student recruitment events

  • Assist with preparation of special SOM events, such as SOM commencement ceremonies

  • Assist in writing, editing, and maintaining advising publications

  • Register continuing students using Banner

  • Use SAS to run reports as needed

  • Award SOM Alumni funded scholarships and awards

  • Evaluate transcripts of admitted students for equivalence to Binghamton University coursework

  • Participate and contribute to the preparation of various reports, publications, and studies

  • Meet with prospective students/Intra-university Transfer Students






Requirements:




Visa sponsorship is not available for this position





  • Bachelor's degree required in an area related to advising

  • Minimum of one year of experience in academic advising or a related field

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills

  • Must be able to work collaboratively and effectively with other SOM staff, SOM administrators, and students

  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Ability to work weekends and evening hours on occasion




Preferred:





  • Master's Degree strongly preferred

  • Prior experience in higher education advising
