Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid/Remote) - 3 days on site

Position Summary

Thales is actively seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer. This is a hybrid position located in Austin to provide a System Engineering function to develop, deploy and support / operate the platform based on Cloud Technologies such as Openstack, Kubernetes, Cassandra, Elasticsearch. For doing so, the candidate will possess and demonstrate the ability to solve complex technical issues (Investigation of issues will require understanding of the whole solution including different systems and technologies, the candidate will need to correlate the information from logs and metrics provided by the different elements of the solution. It also includes Security aspects like encryption, keys and APDU management) for platforms running on multiple technologies and software systems. The candidate should also have extensive understanding of pipeline definition and automation for building, validating and deploying the platform to be able to work on a DevOps / CICD mode with our internal teams and customers. A strong knowledge and experience on Elasticsearch is also required to handle the logging management and support for the customer, provide improvement and upgrades for future deployment and current Production support.

Key Areas of Responsibility 

The Engineer primary responsibility footprint:

•    Member of Cloud OTA Deployment team
•    Define, architect, (collecting requirements, searching for industry best practices, proposing solutions to peers for review, formalizing output in documentation) and deploy high availability solutions using Cloud Technologies such as Openstack, Kubernetes, Cassandra, Elasticseach, Prometheus utilizing active/active architectures (multiple instance of the same component will run in parallel and accept / handle traffic at the same time, either within a same site or different sites)
•    Define, develop and maintain deployment and operation script and tools for deployment automation.
•    Participates in maintenance window activities for hosted, on premise cloud platform changes

Responsible for Solution platform deployment, installation, patching, and third party software upgrades on internal and external customer platforms

•    Maintain Solution and Database monitoring solutions
•    Define, architect, (collecting customer needs and product needs, providing recommendation for project according volume and number transaction / level of availability required) and deploy Cassandra database high availability solutions utilizing replication technology in active architectures across multiple sites.
•    Define, architect, (understanding the database design, data available into the database and the required output. Must also consider the volume of data to implement the best approach to collect and process the data to generate the output in an optimal way) and deploy Scala / Spark programs for data extraction and reporting based high availability solutions utilizing replication technology.
•    Participate in technical design review and strategic decision making (Using his understanding of many technologies, provide feedback and input to his peers to ensure the best design is implemented in the solution)

Minimum Requirements

•    College degree in Computer Science
•    Expert level experience in cloud database deployment, management and migration
•    2+ years of Cassandra / MySQL database administration 
•    2+ years of Elasticsearch / Filebeat deployment / configuration and administration 
•    Very good knowledge of all phases of software development lifecycle: requirements analysis, specification, design, implementation, code review, testing, and release
•    Proactive, team player, and leadership qualities with strong technical background
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

•    Managing high SLA environments
•    Autonomous on Cloud technologies such as Openstack, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, Cassandra
•    Autonomous on Pipeline automation with Jenkins
•    Autonomous on Ansible, Terraform deployment scripts and automation.

Special Position Requirements

Candidate will need to be able to multitask and quickly switch if need be to emergency situations on production platforms.   The position requires the ability to be able to manage tight deadlines and have visibility on project delivery goals and the ability to communicate effectively to project teams and management. The candidate will be able to thrive in fast paced work environment.  The candidate will be required to be available to work during nights and weekends when the situation requires it.

Schedule: Core Business Hours Monday-Friday + few work night activities during the year,

Travel: once or twice a year, Domestic or international

Physical Demands
This position requires decision making capabilities at an advanced level to include assisting the consultant role for other teams, and the ability to provide technical expertise surrounding various database technology topics.
