Position: Department Chair and Professor of Practice in Counselor Education

Stetson University seeks individuals with expertise in counselor education and administrative skills for a twelve-month, full-time, non-tenure-track Professor of Practice/Department Chair appointment beginning August 2024. This is a two-year position with the potential for renewal.

Qualifications:

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited institution or have a related doctoral degree and have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013. The successful candidate should have administrative experience in leading a CACREP-accredited Counselor Education program; the ideal candidate will possess experience as a department chair. Experience in teaching and mentoring Masters level students is required.

Individuals should demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching, the ability to work collaboratively with others, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Qualified applicants should have an interest in contributing to the departments commitment to increasing the quality of education for all students, including those from underrepresented groups. Applicants must be licensed in mental health counseling (LMHC) and/or marriage and family therapy (LMFT) in the state of Florida.

Responsibilities:

The primary focus of this position is serving as the department chair. The department chair role has several main functions, including to act as a representative of the Department within the University and to external constituencies;to advance the mission of the Department by working with the administration and external constituencies;to act as a mentor and facilitator for the faculty and staff within the Department as they carry out their mission; andto lead and manage the Department.

Stetsons Counselor Education department focuses on education of the whole student through a strong foundation in the core CACREP content areas, experiential learning, and professional mentoring relationships with faculty. This chair and professor of practice position also includes teaching and mentoring graduate students from a broad cross section of diverse backgrounds within our two CACREP-accredited programs in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling, and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. The annual teaching load includes one course in the fall semester and one course in the spring semester. Responsibilities also include advising graduate counseling students in their program of study and serving on department committees.

The graduate Department of Counselor Education (www.stetson.edu/counselor) consists of six full-time faculty members and is dedicated to preparing counselor education students to be ethically informed; developing a keen awareness of their personal strengths and resiliency; further developing an appreciation for cultural diversity, critical thinking, and creative expression; and having a deep commitment to the counseling profession and community as a whole. Our commitment is to produce stellar graduates whose work centers on helping individuals, couples, and families in a diverse world. Our faculty are engaged in initiatives that include externally funded grant activities (HRSA and The John Templeton Foundation), leadership within the American Counseling Association, collaborative work across departments within the University to enhance the health and wellbeing of our community, and local and international work centered on the development of culturally sensitive programs and interventions for vulnerable populations. These initiatives create unique and exciting opportunities for our students and for the individual who will be joining our team.

The College of Arts and Sciences:
