College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.



Job Summary

Job Posting RefreshAdministrative accountability for leading, managing, developing, supervising, and evaluating all Research Nurses, Study Coordinators, personnel, and supportive research staff in the DOM research unit. Manages and collaborates relationships with leadership members, physicians and research staff in the conduction of clinical research. Assures professional, clinical, and educational excellence in the provision of quality clinical research. Responsible for the hiring, supervising, training, and evaluation of supportive research staff. Collaborates with Grants/Fiscal Managers and designees to develop and maintain a balanced budget.



Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leads and Supervises Research Personnel: Assists in selection, orientation and training of new staff. Administers or provides input to performance appraisals, quality improvement plans and disciplinary actions. Schedules staff and distributes work assignments. Monitors work flow and makes appropriate work assignment adjustments. Serves as department educator for research staff. Provides guidance and mentorship as needed for other DOM personnel who may be interested in research.
  • Coordinates the Institutional Review Board (IRB) Processes: Responsible for new protocol submissions, amendments, renewals, revisions, adverse events and final reports. Serves as primary contact for sponsor, Contract Research Organization, and necessary AU departments during all study start-up activities, and takes lead on all study preparations.
  • Responsible for Contracts and Budget Negotiations: Responsible for negotiations with the sponsor and coordinating finalization of integrated contract and budget with DSPA personnel. In conjunction with Grants/Fiscal Managers and designees monitors budgets to ensure that funds are allocated appropriately. Maintains a balanced budget.
  • Participates in Research Meetings: Identify research-related issues and develop appropriate solutions from research meetings. Attends regional and/or national meetings which may require overnight travel. Participates and maintains continuing education requirements with respect to licensure, where applicable.
  • Identifies, Evaluates and Recruits Patients into Study Protocols: Independently or in collaboration with principal investigator and/or senior research staff, identifies, evaluates and recruits patients into study protocols. Assures that protocol eligibility criteria are met based on patient's status, and review of the patient's medical records. In conjunction with the principal investigator and senior research staff, participates in the informed consent process as stipulated by federal regulations. Verifies that all required evaluations, procedures and eligibility criteria are met and performed prior to patient entry into study. Maintains protocol, and patient compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
  • Other Duties: All other job-related duties/tasks as assigned.





Required Qualifications

Ph.D. or equivalent from an accredited college or university with a minimum of one year directly applicable experience; previous supervisory experience. OR Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of five years' progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience; or major coursework completed on a Ph.D. in a related scientific field with two years of progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience. OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of eight years' progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Mon-Fri (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)

Pay Grade: R16

Salary: Min $41,846 - $58,000/Annually

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
