Senior Dental Assistant at University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Job Description:

Come join the staff at OU HSC and become a part of Oklahoma's premier research university which leads the state in education and career opportunities. Provides chair side dental assistance, prepares and sterilizes equipment, and provides administrative assistance.

Duties:

• Document patient care, takes and develops dental radiographs (x-rays).


• May provide administrative assistance.


• Assists the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures to include but not limited to  placement of bases and liners and placement and removal of rubber dams, insertion, finishing, and removal of temporary restorations.


• Prepares set-up trays for anesthetic, operative, prosthetic, periodontal, prophylactic, endodontic, and orthodontic dentistry.


• Prepares dental equipment and materials for treatment.


• Performs patient charting as instructed by the dentist.


• Follows infection control protocol and prepares and sterilizes instruments and equipment.


• Greets patient and gets them situated in the treatment room.


• Provides patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures.


• Takes impressions of patient's teeth for study casts (models of teeth).


• May perform office management tasks that often require the use of a personal computer.


• Schedules appointments, answers phones, data entry, and orders supplies.


• Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.

Required Education: High School Diploma or GED AND:

• 24 months experience performing chair side dental assistance.

Equivalency Substitution: Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) is equivalent to 12 months experience.

• Ability to provide patient care and customer service.


• Ability to multitask


• Must have a professional and positive attitude.

Certifications:

• Required to have 2 of the 4 Certifications from Oklahoma Board of Dentistry: Radiation Protection and Safety, Coronal Polishing and Topical Fluoride, Placement of Pit and Fissure Sealants, Assisting in the Administration of Nitrous Oxide

Advertised Physical Requirements:

• 
  Physical:  Standing for long periods of time.  Manual dexterity.  Speaking, listening, walking and reaching.


• 
  Environmental:  Clinic Environment.  Exposure to infectious diseases and blood borne pathogens. 

Departmental Preferences:

• Desire surgical assisting experience in a hospital operating room environment
